摘要: A method of transmitting DTMF signals over a compressed computer network (24) comprises sending a packet containing a compressed DTMF signal followed by a confirmation packet. The confirmation packet preferably comprises an uncompressed DTMF signal which is transmitted on the same logical channel as the packets that represent voice signals. To detect the DTMF signal transmitted, a telephony Internet server (28) decompresses packets as they are received. If a packet appears to contain a compressed DTMF signal, the telephony Internet server looks for the presence of the confirmation packet before processing the previously received packet as a DTMF signal. In an alternative embodiment, the confirmation packet comprises a code that represents a DTMF signal. The packets that represent the voice signal and the code representing the DTMF signal are sent on separate virtual channels of the same logical channel. At a receiving end, data on one channel is directed by a separation logic block (114) to a speech decompressor (116) while another channel is directed to a DTMF signal generator (118) that generates a DTMF signal when a corresponding code is detected. The outputs of either the speech decompressor or the DTMF signal generator are applied to a receiving telephone (124).

摘要: A communication system for transmitting address changes. A communication system includes a source communication system and one or more destination communication systems, each of which is identified by a unique number or address. A memory in the source communication system maintains a record of each destination communication system that communicates with it. If the number or address of the source communication is changed, the source communication system generates a new number or address message which is transmitted to each of the destination communication systems. The destination communication systems receive the new number or address message and update a memory to reflect the new number or address of the source communication system. Those destination systems that are able to read the new number or address message and update a record of the number or address for the source communication system generate an acknowledge signal which is transmitted to the source communication system. The source communication system may transmit a human readable new number or address message to those destination communication systems that have not transmitted the acknowledge signal. The communications systems may comprise telephones, facsimile machines or computers having e-mail or IP addresses.

摘要: A system and a method for managing incoming calls within a call queue include a network bandwidth monitor for monitoring network bandwidth availability on a call center and a queue call rate monitor for determining a total of all call charge rates associated with the calls. A queue manager determines the order of advancement of the calls within the queue. If the network bandwidth monitor determines that network bandwidth availability is below a predetermined threshold, high network bandwidth calls are preferentially advanced to free up additional network bandwidth. Calls with high charge rates are preferentially advanced if the total call charge rate in the queue exceeds a predetermined maximum threshold. If the maximum total call charge rate threshold is exceeded and the network bandwidth availability level is below the minimum threshold, a relative priority for maintaining network bandwidth availability and reducing total call charge rates will determine the order of call advancement. In a preferred embodiment, a router resource monitor determines whether router resource availability is above a minimum threshold level. Different priority sets are configured for each combination of a low network bandwidth availability state, a low router resource availability state, and/or a high total call charge rate state. Call advancement within the queue is at least partially determined by the priority sets.

摘要: A device (104) transmitting or receiving low priority data may receive or be directed to transfer higher priority data for transmission. If the incoming data is of sufficiently high priority, the device (104) will interrupt transmission of the outgoing data by generating a signal on the bus (102) indicative of a collision. The receiving device (106) will then back-off. To prevent another device (106, 108) from seizing the bus after the back-off, the device (104) immediately (i.e., before expiration of a single slot time), proceeds with the high priority transmission. Once it is finished, the device (104) may resume its earlier lower priority transmission.

摘要: A system for integrating electronic location indicating systems (e.g., electronic door lock systems) with telecommunication systems (e.g., a PBX). This integrating of systems is done to improve the performance of a telecommunication feature, such as the camp-on feature. An electronic system is used to transmit a signal indicating information related to the user's location. A telecommunication system then receives the signal from the electronic system. This telecommunication system is capable of providing the telecommunication feature (e.g., the camp-on feature). The telecommunication system uses the signal from the electronic system as an input to the telecommunication feature.

摘要: A method and system for providing security for a computing device include resolving conflicts between a password-protected screen saver and communication notification capabilities by selectively enabling access to specific communications when the computing device is in a locked mode. The screen saver of the computing device is configured to switch the device from a normal operative mode to a locked mode in response to detection of a preset condition, such as the expiration of an idle-time timer. The computing device then remains in the locked mode until a preset authorization condition is recognized, e.g., entering a password. However, with the computing device in the locked mode, a subset of communication access capabilities is enabled. Specifically, notification of incoming communications is enabled. Preferably, connectivity for select types of outgoing calls is also enabled, e.g., connectivity for emergency calls. In the preferred embodiment, the conflicts are resolved by integrating the screen saver with communication access capabilities in a single software package. Also in the preferred embodiment, the communication access capabilities are provided by a telephony over LAN application and a switch to the locked mode is disabled during communication sessions involving the computing device. In other embodiments, while in a locked mode, incoming calls may be preconfigured by the user to selectively break through security features based on caller identification information.

摘要: A method and system for client identification include a control unit configured to enable call service features in communication devices supported by the control unit. A first communication device transmits an off-hook message to the call control unit with a first memory-space physical address locally accessed from memory associated with the first communication device. The first physical address represents a location in main memory of call service profile data associated with the first communication device. The control unit responds to the first physical address by accessing a first data set from the main memory. A verification program determines whether the first data set includes the first call service profile. The control unit enables a first set of call services indicated by the first call service profile data for the first communication device if the first call service profile is included in the first data set. If the first data set does not include the first call service profile data, the control unit searches for a current address of the first call service profile, transmits the current address to the first communication device, and accesses the first call service profile from the current address before enabling the first set of call services. In a preferred embodiment, the first communication device locally stores call service profile addresses for a local communication device and a remotely located communication device. The call control unit is configured to enable call services in the local and remotely located communication devices in response to receiving the call service profile addresses for the local and remotely located communication devices in call-setup messages transmitted by the first communication device.
