Abstract: An automatic apparatus for discharging loose products, such as fruit, vegetables and the like, contained in the generously dimensioned crates that are commonly known as "bins", are open at the top and have their lower part provided with a support plate in the form of a pallet. The apparatus consists essentially of: a lower full bin infeed platform connected to a de-stacker group that progressively reduces a number of bins placed, for example by a fork lift truck, on the lower platform and feeds them, one at a time and one after the other, to an oscillating frame provided to tip the individual bins through more than 90.degree. until they have been completely emptied; and an upper platform, positioned above the one to which prior reference has been made, onto which the emptied bins pass, this being connected to a stacker group, the purpose of which is to form the empty bins into piles which are then picked up and are sent back to be filled anew.

Abstract: For handling and more particularly for discharging materials lying in a pile upon a storage area like the bottom of a silo, a scraping element is driven into the pile of materials and the resisting force applied to said scraping element is measured. When the said force has reached a predetermined value, the direction of motion of the said scraping element is reversed in order to discharge an amount of materials from the silo. Means are provided to generate a control signal when the said value has been reached, said signal being applied to means for controlling the reversing movement of the scraping element. Thus the resistance encountered by the said scraping element and its driving means does not exceed an admissible value and no blocking can take place.

Abstract: Apparatus for delivering boluses into recurring arrays of longitudinally moving receptacles has an endless conveyor of connected slats with recesses for receipt of boluses. The slats travel in two opposed parallel tracks. Spaced parallel guides segregate boluses horizontally in a conveyor filling area. In one embodiment transverse dividers protrude to separate adjacent slats in the conveyor filling area and retract outside the filling area, allowing the conveyor to deliver boluses into recurring arrays of moving receptacles as the slats move substantially complementally with the receptacles.

No. 4,005,784, is provided with at least one laterally adjustable barrier member which forms a side or end of an interior space within which successive layers of bales or other articles are formed on or over the floor.A vehicle of the aforesaid kind has a body which is open at the back and comprises spaced side walls and a front wall and a vertically movable floor is arranged therein and is progressively lowered as successive layers of articles are formed within the upper part of the body.The said barrier member may have the form of a rail or bar or it may be an auxiliary wall which preferably is shallow in depth so as to be disposed wholly above the level of the floor when the latter is in its uppermost operative position whereby it is movable inwardly above the latter.The said barrier member or one or more of them, is preferably movable inwardly by power actuated means, thereby to push the bales or other articles closer together.More particularly each of the barrier members is disposed inwardly of, and adjacent and parallel to, a corresponding side or end wall of the body which may also be open at the bottom so that the floor may be lowered onto the ground and then detached from its raising and lowering means.The floor may also support a longitudinally slidable pallet or false floor so that the latter may be discharged together with a stack of bales formed thereon.

Abstract: An apparatus for orienting halved fruit with the cut sides thereof facing upwardly includes a longitudinally extending vibrating table which is inclined slightly downwardly from the receiving end to the discharge end. The table is provided with longitudinally extending opposed side walls, with a bottom extending therebetween to define a channel along which the fruit translates. In the first, receiving section of the apparatus, the bottom is inclined laterally as well as longitudinally. In the second section, contiguous with the first, a trough narrower than the width of the fruit is disposed generally adjacent to the lower edge of the laterally inclined bottom. The vertical side walls of the trough diverge slightly to increase the width of the trough. In the third section of the apparatus, the bottom is inclined more steeply longitudinally, and the medial side wall of the trough flares outwardly to join one of the side walls of the table. The discharge end of the apparatus is provided with a concave bottom and low side walls to deliver the oriented fruit.

Abstract: Apparatus for accumulating fragile articles includes a continuously rotating turntable. The articles, which in the disclosed embodiment of the invention comprise whole peeled grapefruit, are fed continuously and in random arrangement on a delivery conveyor to the turntable. The turntable is provided with a radially inwardly sloping article supporting surface and is driven at a relatively slow speed so that the incoming articles move toward the center thereof and will be distributed uniformly thereabout. When the articles have accumulated so as to fill the turntable, an article sensing switch arm positioned adjacent the outer periphery of the turntable will be actuated to elevate the turntable to an article discharge position by pivoting it about one edge thereof thereby causing the articles to gravitate onto a discharge conveyor which is started by the actuation of said article sensing switch arm and moved for a distance sufficient to accommodate the accumulated full load of articles from the turntable.

Abstract: An apparatus for depositing a quantity of articles in a container utilizing an endless conveyor mounted on a vertically movable support structure. Belt curtain means attached to the support structure adjacent the article support means of the conveyor aid in confining the articles being transported. Abstract: An inclined conveyor for elevating or lowering relatively fragile articles, such as whole peeled grapefruit, includes an endless flexible draper belt which is mounted for rotation in an inclined plane. The upper run of the draper belt is arranged to be engaged at spaced locations by a series of transversely extending rods which are moved in an endless loop path within the endless loop path of the draper belt. The linear speed of the rods is less than that of the draper belt and the upper run of the draper belt has end portions which extend in generally horizontal planes at the upstream and downstream ends of the endless loop path of the rods whereby a pendant pocket is caused to be gradually formed in the draper belt between each pair of adjacent rods which pocket is then elevated or lowered solely by means of the movement of the rods; thus, the fragile articles can be continuously supported by the belt while they are transferred to a different elevation without being unduly jostled or otherwise disturbed so as to cause damage thereto.

Abstract: A side discharge belt conveyor assembly for fragile articles such as grapefruit sections employs three flat parallel conveyor belts all moving in the same direction, and having lateral spaces between adjacent side edges. Diverter blades are pivotally supported in close proximity to the upper surfaces of the belts in order to sweep the fragile articles laterally off all the side edges of the belts at predetermined locations, thereby minimizing the extent of required lateral travel of the fragile articles. Two oppositely-movable diverter blades above each side belt are connected to one diverter blade above a side portion of the wide center belt for simultaneous movement in unison between inoperative longitudinal positions and operative slanted positions. A deflector and additional pivoted blades are provided for diverting broken grapefruit sections from the central portion of the wide center belt to transverse discharge chutes at predetermined locations.
