A method for providing a camp-on service includes receiving from a caller a request to communicate with a called party via a first communication method and notifying the caller that the called party is currently communicating on a first call via the first communication method. The method includes receiving from the caller a request to camp-on to the called party and an indication that the caller can be reached via a second communication method. The method also includes determining that the first call involving the called party has terminated.

In accordance with a particular embodiment of the present invention, a method using presence information to improve automatic call distribution includes receiving a call for connection with one of a plurality of agents. An indicator of a service level problem is detected, and presence information is used to identify one or more draftable agents that are not in a ready state in response to detecting the indicator. The call is distributed to a selected one of the identified one or more draftable agents.

Disclosed is a method for providing communication with an interactive voice response system that includes establishing a communication session between a caller and an interactive voice response system. The communication session includes a call thread. The method includes detecting a pause condition associated with the communication session and pausing the call thread. A pause point in the call thread is determined when the call thread is paused. A reminder message may then be communicated to the caller at predefined intervals. The reminder message may include instructions to the caller for resuming the call thread. The method may also include receiving an indication to resume the call thread and resuming the call thread at the pause point.

A system and method for communicating messages includes receiving, from a first client associated with a calling party, a request for connection with a second client. A called party associated with the second client is notified that the request for connection was received, in response to receiving the request for connection. A connection processing instruction may be received from a third client associated with the called party. In accordance with a particular embodiment of the present invention, the request for connection may be processed in accordance with the connection processing instruction.

A system for navigating includes an interface operable to receive position information of a first modality. The position information of the first modality is associated with a navigation unit. The interface is further operable to receive position information of a second modality. The position information of the second modality is associated with the navigation unit. The system also includes a processor coupled to the interface and operable to identify a destination. The system is further operable to navigate to the destination based on the position information of the first and second modalities by switching between the first modality and the second modality.

In one embodiment, techniques for alerting a user of unchecked messages correlated to a contact before communicating with the contact are provided. The check for unchecked messages may be performed across a plurality of communication modalities. If one or more unchecked messages are found, then the user is alerted that there may be unchecked messages. The user may then have the option to check the unchecked messages before contacting the contact.

A method for intelligently managing a transportation network is provided. The method includes providing a roadside apparatus to communicate with vehicle nodes associated with vehicles in a transportation network, the vehicle nodes being in a range of control of the roadside apparatus. Based on real-time location and direction information received from a particular vehicle node associated with a particular one of the vehicles, a specific neighboring roadside apparatus whose range of control is next to be entered by the particular vehicle is identified. Handover information is communicated to the specific neighboring roadside apparatus, and the particular vehicle node is communicatively connected to the specific roadside apparatus before disconnection from the roadside apparatus.

The method includes transitioning the agent to a transition state to reserve the agent for handling the incoming call. The transition state prevents the agent from participating in a lower priority call.

A method and an apparatus for inserting an included message into an e-mail message, wherein the e-mail message is transferred through a unified messaging solution have been provided. In one embodiment, the unified messaging solution detects transmission of a voice mail message as the e-mail attachment. The voice mail message is received by a system that facilitates the transfer of the e-mail message. The system associates the included message with the voice mail message. The included message is inserted into the e-mail message. The system sends the e-mail message along with the included message and the attached voice mail message to an intended user. In a preferred embodiment, the included message is an advertising message.
