Abstract: To address the need to excite lasers at a high frequency while minimizing electrical parasitic components, the present invention embraces a system and method of exciting a laser using a direct injection of an electron beam. The system may include a low voltage electron emission device made of one or more electron sources. When the device is activated, an electrical field is applied to the tip of each electron source, causing the electron source to emit a stream of electrons. The electrons are directed into a VCSEL, causing it to emit an optical signal. In another aspect, a system for random number generation is provided. The system may also include a processor that receives a measurement of an initial random value, executes an algorithm, where at least one input of the algorithm is the initial random value, and determines a final random value.

Abstract: A network element includes multiple ports and a packet classifier. The packet classifier is configured to receive rules and Rule Patterns (RPs), each RP corresponding to a subset of the rules and specifies positions of unmasked packet-header bits to be matched by the rules in the subset, to store in a RAM a grouping of the RPs into Extended RPs (ERPs), each ERP defining a superset of the unmasked bits in the RPs associated therewith, to receive packets and match each packet to one or more of the rules by accessing the ERPs in the RAM, to determine counter values, each counter value corresponding to a respective RP and is indicative of a number of the received packets that match the RP, and to adaptively modify grouping of the RPs into the ERPs depending on the counter values.

An impairment in the digital signal is estimated based on a plurality of error values calculated for a plurality of the samples.

Abstract: A method for checking electrical rules in a design of a circuit including transistors connected by nodes, includes defining a hierarchical database including (i) a root representing the circuit, and (ii) instances of context-cells representing design entities and including node-ports that connect the design entities. Electrical properties of the node-ports are propagated from the root through the node-ports to at least a portion of the context-cells. The electrical properties, which were propagated from the root, are propagated from one or more of the context-cells to one or more peer context-cells. An electrical rule violation in at least one of the context-cells is identified based on the propagated electrical properties.
