Abstract:
A walker device for assisting an individual with mobility which is temporarily convertible to a wheeled transportation chair, includes a frame structure having two front legs and two rear legs, each of the legs having a leg extension adjustably attached thereto and supported on a rotatable wheel. A seat is attached to the frame structure. A backrest is selectively disposed in a front position for a rearward seating condition or in a rear position for a forward seating condition. A footrest assembly is optionally attached to the frame structure and is adapted to pivot about first and second pivoting axes parallel to each other, between a folded position and an unfolded position optionally with different height levels.
Abstract:
A bath tub rail assembly for use on a bath tub sidewall includes a hand grip and a clamping device. The hand grip and the clamping device are adjustably connected such that the hand grip may be adjusted in both height and angular orientation relative to the bath tube sidewall when the bat tub rail assembly is attached thereto.
Abstract:
Improved regulation and transient response are provided by a power supply architecture providing both unregulated and regulated voltage converters in parallel but deriving input power from separate power supplies connected in series wherein regulated and unregulated branches each provide a substantially fixed and constant proportion of the output current. The series connection of input power sources may provide a further feedback mechanism in addition to feedback for regulation which enhances overall performance. As a perfecting feature of the invention, inductor-less resonant converters which are switched in an interleaved fashion may be used in the unregulated branch while substantially cancelling the characteristic large output voltage ripple thereof.
Abstract:
An ink jet printing process in which an image is permanently bound, directly or indirectly, to a final substrate by reaction of the ink with the substrate. An ink jet ink is that is comprised of reactive dyes, direct dyes or combinations thereof are printed according to the process.
Abstract:
A process for printing images and subsequently bonding the image to a substrate by activating bonding through the application of energy. An ink may comprise reactive functional groups that are blocked to prevent reaction of reactive components during printing of the image by the digital imaging device. The ink is solid at ambient temperature, and may be liquefied after the ink is installed in the digital imaging device. Heat used to achieve phase change of the ink does not disable, by removal or otherwise, the blocking agent. After the image is printed by the imaging device, the reactive components are activated by an energy source, which may be heat, to promote chemical cross-linking and bonding of the image permanently onto a substrate. The substrate may be an intermediate substrate that provides a transfer sheet for subsequent transfer of the image to a final substrate. The formed image, including the colorant, is bonded to the substrate by the reactive components.
Abstract:
A flat panel display is disclosed. In one embodiment, display normal light that is parallel to a display normal of the flat panel is provided. Spaced light redirecting prisms receive the display normal light and redirect the display normal light to redirected light, which is non-parallel to the display normal. A flat surface portion is posteriorly coupled to the plurality of spaced light redirecting prisms such that the flat surface portion spans the spaces between the plurality of spaced light redirecting prisms. The flat surface portion receives the display normal light from the light guide and receives the redirected light from the plurality of spaced light redirecting prisms and propagates both to a display.
Abstract:
A switched voltage regulator provides improved regulation at a lower clock rate/sampling frequency (e.g. several orders of magnitude lower than would be required for comparable regulation) while using a low resolution digital pulse width modulator such that limit cycle oscillations occur (and thus of low cost and complexity and small size) by limiting the amplitude of limit cycle oscillations which therefore need not be avoided by more complex arrangements which are not commercially feasible. Limiting of amplitude of limit cycle oscillations is achieved by adding essentially a digitized ripple voltage signal corresponding to the difference between the output of the voltage regulator and an average output of the voltage regulator as an input to the digital pulse width modulator. Performance of this arrangement may be enhanced by adding a ramp signal to the digitized ripple voltage signal and even further enhanced by limiting the ramp signal to a range which corresponds to steady state operation but not transients.
Abstract:
A digital pulse width modulator leverages clock frequency to achieve very fine duty cycle resolution by using a constant number of time slots for each state of a pulse signal and varying the number of time slots in a switching cycle within acceptable limits for variation of the switching cycle frequency or by using two relatively low frequency clocks of slightly differing frequency and selecting pulse leading and trailing edges in accordance with pulses output therefrom. A fine resolution of duty cycle adjustment can thus be provided corresponding to a much higher effective clock frequency than is actually used; allowing improvement of efficiency of clock and switching circuits, particularly in switching voltage regulator applications.
Abstract:
This invention describes novel purified and isolated nucleic acid molecules or the fragments thereof, extracted from nematode or arthropod pests or recombinant, which encode P-glycoprotein homologs and regulate resistance to the macrocyclic lactone compounds. The invention further relates to the new P-glycoprotein homolog expression product of these nucleic acids. Also described herein are methods for detecting the gene encoding for resistance to the macrocyclic lactone compounds in nematode or arthropod pests which comprise comparing the nucleic acids extracted from a pest specimen to the nucleic acids encoding for resistance and the nucleic acids encoding for susceptibility to the macrocyclic lactone compounds. Lastly, the present invention is also drawn to methods and compositions for increasing the efficacy of the macrocyclic lactone compounds against resistant nematode or resistant arthropod pests which comprise administering to a mammal or applying to crops and the like a pesticidal enhancing effective amount of a multidrug resistance reversing agent.
Abstract:
The method is one of wireless transmission of information between two units consisting primarily of a portable object, such as a personalized watch (1), and a computer station (20). Each unit includes signal transmitting and/or receiving means (2, 24, 26) switched alternately to a transmitting mode and into a receiving mode. Information is transmitted by transmitting a plurality of information frames alternately between the two units. Each information frame comprises a synchronization field, which includes a particular number of synchronization bytes, an information packet and filler bytes. On receiving a frame, the receiving unit counts the synchronization bytes. The receiving unit transmits, in a heading of the information packet, a synchronization indication which is a function of the number of synchronization bytes received. The synchronization indication is used to correct the size of the synchronization field of the next frame received by the receiving unit. These synchronization field size correction operations are effected in a similar manner in both units.
