Abstract: A two-stage microinverter for coupling a PV panel to a power grid includes a DC/DC converter stage having an input for coupling to the PV panel and a DC/AC inverter stage that has an output for coupling to the grid, with at least one DC link capacitor between the DC/DC converter and DC/AC inverter stage. A synchronous controller that includes a loop compensator coupled to a mixer is between an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a phase-locked loop (PLL) for coupling to an output voltage from the grid. The ADC receives a DC link voltage from the DC link capacitor. An output of the PLL is for controlling a timing of sampling by the ADC of the DC link voltage so that the ADC samples the DC link voltage when an AC component of a ripple voltage on the DC link voltage intersects an average value of the DC link voltage.

Abstract: A computer executed method for supervised facial recognition comprising the operations of preprocessing, feature extraction and recognition. Preprocessing may comprise dividing received face images into several subimages, converting the different face image (or subimage) dimensions into a common dimension and/or converting the datatypes of all of the face images (or subimages) into an appropriate datatype. In feature extraction, 2D DMWT is used to extract information from the face images. Application of the 2D DMWT may be followed by FastICA. FastICA, or, in cases where FastICA is not used, 2D DMWT, may be followed by application of the l2-norm and/or eigendecomposition to obtain discriminating and independent features. The resulting independent features are fed into the recognition phase, which may use a neural network, to identify an unknown face image.

Abstract: Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CNPs) have been proven to exhibit antioxidant properties attributed to its surface oxidation states (Ce4+ to Ce3+ and vice versa) mediated at the oxygen vacancies on the surface of CNPs. Different anions in precursor cerium salts were used to prepare CNPs resulting in disclosed CNPs with varying physicochemical properties such as dispersion stability, hydrodynamic size, and the signature surface chemistry. The antioxidant catalytic activity and oxidation potentials of different CNPs have been significantly altered with the change of anions in the precursor salts. For one, CNPs prepared using precursor salts containing NO3− and Cl− ions exhibited increased antioxidant activity than previously thought possible. The change in oxidation potentials of CNPs with the change in concentration of the nitrate and chloride ions indicates the disclosed CNP's have different surface chemistry and antioxidant properties. These compositions and methods of their synthesis are disclosed.

Abstract: A silica-based nanoformulation and method is used to treat citrus canker, inhibit the growth of mold and mildew, and add nutrients to soil used for agricultural purposes. The nanotechnology-enabled copper-loaded, silica nanoformulation (CuSiNP/NG) design is a “revolutionary re-invention” of Cu for safe application because it provides a formulation with maximum abundance of ionic Cu, provides sustained and optimal Cu ion release for long-term disease protection, better adherence to plant surfaces and structural surfaces due to gel-based nanostructure of CuSiNG, thus avoiding multiple spray applications and reducing the amount of Cu used in comparison to existing Cu compounds without compromising antibacterial activity. Thus, the silica-based nanoformulation releases copper in non-toxic quantities to the environment and the silica matrix provides an environmentally safe host material with a flexible design that is optimized to provide specific antifungal and antibacterial remediation using infrequent applications.
