    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for transmission of an indication of an activated bandwidth part (BWP) or component carrier (CC), or combination thereof, to a user equipment (UE) through downlink control information (DCI) that is excluding a grant of resources of the BWP or CC. A UE may establish a connection with a base station in which one or more CCs may be configured with one or more BWPs. The base station may indicate which BWP is active for a transmission in DCI that is transmitted subsequent to the configuration of the one or more CCs, and a UE may activate a corresponding BWP or CC based on the indication. In some cases, a CC may be deactivated unless the DCI indicates that at least one BWP of the CC is active.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station and user equipment (UE) may utilize different slot structures for communications depending on the type of data to be transmitted. A base station may configure the slot structures based on a capability of a UE or operation conditions. The base station may identify a slot structure for a first slot, which may be group-specific or UE-specific, and determine a slot structure for a subsequent slot, which may be UE-specific or based on the slot structure of the first slot. A set of slot structure combinations may be identified to be used by a UE for combining the first and subsequent slots, and one combination may be selected based on a capability of the UE, an operation to be performed by the UE, an operational condition associated with the UE, or a combination thereof.

    Abstract: A method of wireless communications at a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, from a serving cell associated with a wireless network, a radio resource management (RRM) mode indicator that indicates a set of one or more beams for which cell measurement and reporting is to be performed by the UE; performing at least one cell measurement on at least one synchronization signal (SS) block received from at least one neighboring cell; determining, based at least in part on the RRM mode indicator, whether to decode a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) received in each SS block of the at least one SS block; and transmitting a cell measurement report, the cell measurement report based at least in part on the at least one cell measurement, the cell measurement report selectively including at least one beam index based at least in part on whether the PBCH is decoded.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described a search space configuration. A set of physical resource blocks (PRBs) or resource element groups (REGs) may be configured over two or more modulation symbols. A control channel element (CCE), or fixed set of REGs, may be formed using REGs in one modulation symbol. A search space, or set of decoding candidates, may be configured for one user equipment (UE) or multiple UEs. Search spaces for different UEs may share some CCEs. A decoding candidate for a UE may occupy a set of CCEs; the UE may make decoding to attempts on the set of CCEs. A base station may transmit in a subset of decoding candidates configured for the UE. A demodulation reference signal (DMRS) may be transmitted when a decoding candidate is used, and DMRS may not be transmitted when a decoding candidate is not used.

    Abstract: Aspects described herein relate to selecting a rank for wireless communications using multiple transmit antenna layers. A first effective throughput achievable using a first rank and based at least in part on a first block error rate (BLER) associated with the first rank can be estimated along with a second effective throughput achievable using a second rank and based at least in part on a second BLER associated with the second rank. The first rank or second rank is selected to be used for transmitting communications over multiple transmit antenna layers based at least in part on comparing the first effective throughput to the second effective throughput, and the selection can be indicated to a transmitting entity from which the communications over the multiple transmit antenna layers are received.
