Abstract:
Disposable paper products, such as paper toweling, are provided with an indicator means which is disposed on said disposable paper product in a discontinuous or combination discontinuous/continuous pattern. The indicator means gives a visually recognizable signal to a user that desirable properties of the disposable paper product are maintained, even after the disposable paper product has become wetted with a substantially transparent aqueous liquid. The wet gray scale difference for the disposable paper product of the present invention is at least about 64 gray scale units when the disposable paper product is wetted with a substantially transparent aqueous liquid.
Abstract:
The multi-layer paper composed of at least three embossed plies of paper (1,2,3) having regularly distributed projections characterized in that it includes two so-called external plies (1,3) of which the respective projections (10,30) are in tip-to-tip positions and a third embossed so-called middle ply (2) of which the projections (20) nest between projections of one of the two external plies (1 or 3).
Abstract:
A method for embossing a sheet of creped paper composed of at least one ply, whereby the sheet is engaged between two metallic cylinders fitted with protrusions and driven in rotation in a conventional manner and mesh with each other while having a play e1 between the tops of the protrusions of one cylinder and the opposite surface of the other cylinder, and a play e2 between the slopes of two adjacent protrusions wherein e1 and e2 are determined in the direction transverse to the direction of paper advance in such a manner that the ratio of e1/e2 is between 0.8 and 1.
Abstract:
An embossed paper laminate having two laminae. The laminae are embossed so that each embossed site of one lamina is adhesively joined to the nonembossed region of the other lamina. The laminate is made by two close tolerance pattern rolls juxtaposed to form a nip. Each pattern roll has radially extending protuberances which contact the periphery of the other pattern roll intermediate its protuberances. The laminae are fed through the nip in face-to-face relationship and are embossed and adhesively joined to the other lamina by the radially extending protuberances.
Abstract:
A method for printing and embossing sheets of paper made of cellulose wadding and with two or more plies, characterized in that one of the plies is directly printed on the embossing roller using one or more printing systems mounted on the embossing systems, and in that this ply is associated with another embossed and glue-sized ply to form a sheet in such manner that the print inks are located on the sheet's inner side between the two or more plies.
Abstract:
A mated pair resilient and rigid embossing rolls are disclosed for achieving the advantages of conventional rubber to steel embossing, while avoiding the problems of conventional embossing approaches. In particular, a laser can be utilized to form recesses in a resilient roll such that the resilient roll receives protuberances of a rigid male embossing roll when the rolls are placed in contact. By providing recesses on the resilient roll, the pressure or force required for causing the rubber to flow around the protuberances can be significantly decreased as compared to conventional rubber to steel embossing. As a result, wear on the rolls is reduced, and smaller diameter rolls may be utilized, thereby reducing the cost of the embossing equipment. In addition, since less pressure is required to cause the rubber to flow about the protuberances, roll deflection is not a problem, and an embossed pattern can be imparted having a consistent, high degree of definition across the width of a web.
Abstract:
Cross-machine strength reduction of creped wadding sheets due to embossing is reduced by a background embossing pattern having elongated embossments oriented with the major axis of the embossments substantially parallel to the cross-machine direction of the sheet.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for embossing foil to produce warp-free, textured packaging sheet. The method comprises the forming of bosses in the foil while firmly supporting the foil clamped on rigid lands at the perimeter of the boss to be formed. Drawing the foil between rigid male and female walls of a forming cavity while so held, and interposing a sheet of yieldable material between the surface of the female portion of the cavity and the sheet of foil to produce a yieldable matrix against which the foil comes to rest.
Abstract:
In the manufacture of a multi-ply fibrous sheet structure, apparatus is operative to provide each of a pair of plies of fibrous web material with a spot embossed first pattern defined by inwardly directed nested protuberances that are adhesively joined at distal surfaces thereof to confronting surfaces of the opposite ply, and to provide the adhesively joined plies with a spot embossed second pattern defined by registered, unidirectionally presented protuberances and filled compactly one within the other of the joined plies.
Abstract:
A method for producing laminated embossed webs useful as toweling, napkins, placemats and the like. The method employs a novel arrangement of embossing and laminator rolls to achieve a nested configuration of the embossed, inwardly-extending projections, and avoids the speed limitations inherent in prior machines.
