    Abstract: A display panel comprising a matrix of D.C. scan cells arrayed in rows and columns and a matrix of A.C. display cells arrayed in rows and columns, each scan cell being in operative relation with two display cells so that for every column of scan cells there are two sets of display cells.     Abstract: A self shift type gas discharge panel in which the display screen comprises a plurality of shift lines arranged in parallel in the vertical direction, and a system and method for driving the panel. The display screen is divided into several sections both in the horizontal and vertical directions to form a plurality of display areas, and the shift operation can be performed independently in each of these display areas.     Abstract: A first glass substrate supports a plurality of electrodes arranged in concentric circles. A second glass substrate supports a plurality of shift electrodes arranged radially. The substrates are positioned face to face with a specified space between them filled with an ionizable gas. The radially arranged shift electrodes are periodically connected to common buses each connected to a corresponding one of a plurality of shift driver circuits equal in number to the buses. At least one of the shift electrodes is selectively connected to a write driver circuit and to one of the shift driver circuits. When the one of the shift electrodes is energized by a signal from the write driver circuit, discharge spots are generated at the intersection of the one of the shift electrodes and the concentrically arranged electrodes. The discharge spots are endlessly shifted in clockwise or counterclockwise direction along the concentrically arranged electrodes through the switching of operating voltages applied sequentially to the shift electrodes from the shift driver circuits via the buses.

    Abstract: A plasma discharge display device including at least one channel defined between opposing walls and containing an ionizable medium. Electrodes are employed for the application of potential differences whereby the medium will emit light proximate the electrodes. The electrodes include first and second AC electrodes on opposite wall surfaces, and third and fourth electrodes for developing a DC discharge in the vicinity of the first and second AC electrodes. The channel is divided into individual cells by means of insulating walls, and the DC discharge serves to prime individual cells, this discharge being developed at succeeding cells. The potential differences achieved by the AC electrodes across a given cell are selectively imparted whereby a primed cell can be caused to emit light. Thereafter, continued operation of the AC electrodes will maintain the light emission in the selected cells to provide a continuous display.
