Abstract: A communication technique of fusing a fifth generation (5G) communication for supporting higher data transmission rate beyond a fourth generation (4G) system with an Internet of things (IoT) technology and a system thereof is provided. The technique may be applied to an intelligent service (smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car or connected car, health care, digital education, retail business, security and safety related service, or the like) based on the 5G communication technology and the IoT related technology. A method is provided for effectively managing a registration state for a terminal in a 5G core network such as an access and mobility management function (AMF) in a situation of accessing a 5G network via a non-3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) access.

Abstract: Provided are a communication method and system that combine the 5G communication system with IoT technology to support a data rate higher than that of the 4G system. A method is provided that enables the terminal and the 5G network to check each other's capability information to achieve interworking between network slices defined differently by different mobile network operators. The method includes receiving system information associated with a network slice; transmitting, to an access and mobility management function (AMF) entity of a visited public land mobile network (VPLMN), a first message, in case that the system information is associated with a base station corresponding to the VPLMN; and receiving, from the AMF entity, a second message including allowed network slice selection assistance information (NSSAI) for the terminal.

The method includes transmitting, to a mobility management function, information on supportable communication network for the terminal and an attach request message including a packet data unit (PDU) session request, receiving an internet protocol (IP) address allocated based on the information on supportable communication network and an attach accept message including a PDU session response, and connecting to a network based on the IP address.
