Abstract:
A scanning device and method of forming a scanned electronic image include an imaging sensor and at least one navigation sensor. In the preferred embodiment, the imaging sensor is a linear array of sensor elements, with a two-dimensional navigation sensor array at each end. The scanning device has three degrees of freedom, since position information from the navigation sensors allows manipulation of an image signal from the imaging sensor to reduce distortion artifacts caused by curvilinear scanning. Acceptable sources of the position information include printed matter and contrast variations dictated by variations in the inherent structure-related properties of the medium on which the scanned image is formed. Illumination for optimal operation of the navigation system may be introduced at a grazing angle in some applications or in the normal to a plane of the original in other applications, but this is not essential.

An image reading apparatus of the invention is designed to read an image on a manuscript. The manuscript may be located under or above the image reading apparatus. The image reading apparatus comprises a casing, a reading mechanism situated inside the casing, an actuating mechanism situated inside the casing for moving the reading mechanism, and a circuit mechanism for controlling the reading mechanism and the actuating mechanism. The casing has a reading window formed inside an upper or bottom portion of the casing. An image to be read is placed adjacent to the reading window, and the reading mechanism reads the image through the reading window. The circuit mechanism is provided with at least one circuit plate, which is located at one side of the casing above or below a moving area of the reading mechanism. Accordingly, the size of the image reading apparatus is minimized. A grip is integrally formed with the casing, and the circuit plate is retained inside the grip.
Abstract:
A copying machine in a casing has a window in the casing for visually recognizing a printing position and image pickup position, so that the printing position and image pickup position may be adjusted through the window. An illumination apparatus to be used in the copying machine is located in the casing, and the light from a light source is led onto the imaging surface by an optical guide member, which illuminates the illuminating position such as the image pickup position. Since the light from the light source can be shielded by the casing, the illuminating position can be recognized visually through the window.
Abstract:
A film image retrieval and scanning apparatus having split first and second optical paths with each optical path being precisely aligned with the other, and each path containing coupled zoom optics. The first path projects a film image onto a first scanner array in the first path to provide a real time display of the image on a TV monitor. The second optical path projects an image onto a second scanner array, which may have a higher resolution than the first array to provide an analog signal that is converted to a digital signal of the image that may be stored, or transmitted on a network, or both. The first scanner provides a real time image and serves as a viewfinder that can be used to locate the proper position of an image; thus ensuring that the image will be aligned with the second array so that it can be scanned by the second scanner array when desired.

Reflected image light obtained by illuminating a reading portion to be read on a given objective image plane is sent to an image sensor located on the rear side through a reflecting member disposed substantially just above the reading portion. By forming a viewing path inclined forward against the image sensor so as to permit the reading portion to be observed easily, the desired image light reflected from the reading portion is little interfered with external light entering inside the scanner through the viewing path, thereby to enjoy image processing of high quality.

Photoelectric reader includes a reader part for moving on an original to read image data in the original and transforming the image data into electric signals and a printer part for visualizing and fixing the electric data. The reader part is provided with an operation member for regulating the range of image data area to be read.
