Abstract: Providing coverage enhancements for a user equipment (UE) includes decoding a random access channel (RACH) preamble received from a user equipment (UE) via a physical random access channel (PRACH). A number of repetitions associated with transmitting a random access response (RAR) over a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) may be determined in response to the RACH preamble. A transmission for the UE to be sent over a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) may be encoded. The transmission may indicate the number of repetitions to the UE using one or more reserved bits of a downlink control information (DCI).

Such techniques may include determining a communication channel is unoccupied for an initial duration, determining a number of communication slots of the communication channel to defer for transmission, and counting one or more communication slots of the communication channel that are not in use. The UE receives a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmission configured with downlink control information (DCI) in a single-DCI, multi-transmission/reception point (TRP) operation, wherein the DCI schedules reception of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmission, determines whether or not a TCI field is configured in the DCI, when the TCI field is not configured in the DCI, determining a default beam based on a control resource set (CORESET) with the lowest ID in the PDCCH and when the TCI field is configured in the DCI, determining whether the TCI field indicates a TCI codepoint includes two TCI states.

Abstract: This disclosure describes the following enhancement to improve the PDCCH reliability: PDCCH aggregation and multi-beam PDCCH reception for a 5G wireless communication system. The disclosed techniques entail obtaining repeated PDCCH by processing a PDCCH-Config, ControlResourceSet, or SearchSpace configuration parameter including an information element (IE) indicating a number of consecutive slots in which the PDCCH is repeated. In another embodiment, a gNB generates the PDCCH-Config, ControlResourceSet, or SearchSpace configuration parameter for configuring a UE to receive the repeated PDCCH and employ the multi-beam PDCCH reception.
