Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for beamforming in wireless communications. Some implementations more specifically relate to beamforming configurations for multicast communications. A transmitting device may transmit multicast data to multiple receiving devices, concurrently, via a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH). The PDSCH may be preceded by a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH). The PDCCH may provide scheduling information for the PDSCH, including a multicast beam associated with the PDSCH and a timing offset or delay between the PDCCH and the PDSCH. A receiving device may determine that the PDSCH contains multicast data based on an indication in the PDCCH. To receive the PDSCH, each receiving device may tune its antennas in a direction of the scheduled multicast beam or a default beam based on the delay between the PDCCH and the PDSCH.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for uplink transmit beam update using uplink transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states. An example method generally includes receiving, from a network entity, signaling of an uplink transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state update for one or more uplink transmissions. The example method generally includes determining the uplink TCI state update is to be applied for dynamically scheduled uplink transmission, semi-persistently scheduled uplink transmission, or periodic uplink transmission. The example method generally includes applying the uplink TCI state update to one or more uplink transmissions in accordance with the determination.

Abstract: In some access networks, group-based beam reporting configured for a UE may be based on heuristics and/or based on UE implementation, and therefore, may lack adequate information regarding joint channel properties for simultaneous transmission and reception on a channel configured with a base station. Configurations of UEs and base stations are described herein that support various feedback metrics for resource grouping in association with transmission and reception operation modes and/or channel states, such as MIMO schemes, SINRs, channel properties, and the like. Base stations may dynamically indicate metrics to be reported by UEs so that simultaneous transmission and reception may be sufficiently supported.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for beam failure detection and related timing determinations, such as for applying a default beam after beam failure recovery response (BFRR) message. A method by a user equipment (UE) may include detecting failure of a beam associated with a first cell. The detecting can include performing beam failure detection (BFD) of a beam pair link (BPL) associated with the first cell (e.g., secondary cell (Scell)). The first cell can be in carrier aggregation (CA) with a second cell. The UE may send a beam failure recovery request (BFRQ) message on a second cell (e.g., a primary cell (Pcell)). The BFRQ message can include a candidate recovery beam for the first cell. The UE can receive a BFRR message on the second cell and determine a duration from reception of the BFRR message until using a default beam for communications on the first cell.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may perform path-loss estimation to support uplink transmit power control. The UE may perform path-loss estimations on path-loss reference signals configured by a base station. In some cases, the base station may update (e.g., activate, deactivate, or both) particular path-loss reference signals using a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE). The UE may determine which path-loss reference signal or signals to use for path-loss estimation based on one or more techniques. For example, the UE may filter path-loss measurements over a time duration or may use a single, unfiltered path-loss measurement for path-loss estimation. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may receive deactivated path-loss reference signals (e.g., for a set amount of time or for any amount of time) or may refrain from receiving deactivated path-loss reference signals.

Abstract: A UE configured to report resources, such as beams, to a base station may be unaware of the context or purpose for which the UE is reporting such resources. As different resources may provide different performance and/or quality when used in different contexts, the resources reported by the UE may provide lower quality and/or performance in one context relative to some other unreported resources. In order to improve resource reporting by the UE, the UE may be informed of an operational mode and/or a criteria based upon which the UE may select resources to report. The UE may report such selected resources to the base station in a group-based beam report. The base station may then configure communication with the UE based on the reported resources.
