Abstract: An apparatus for label-free analysis of molecules, including interactions and reactions of the molecules, is disclosed. The apparatus is based on detecting molecule movement under the influence of an external electric field. The apparatus is able to achieve sensitive detection of molecular binding to proteins or other molecules, and conformational changes of proteins or other molecules and biochemical reactions of the proteins or other molecules. Applications of the apparatus include screening of drug molecules, kinetic analysis of posttranslational modification of proteins, and small molecule-protein interactions.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for serial femtosecond crystallography for reducing the vast amount of waste of injected crystals practiced with traditional continuous flow injections. A micrometer-scale 3-D printed water-in-oil droplet generator device includes an oil phase inlet channel, an aqueous phase inlet channel, a droplet flow outlet channel, and two embedded non-contact electrodes. The inlet and outlet channels are connected internally at a junction. The electrodes comprise gallium metal injected within the 3-D printed device. Voltage across the electrodes generates water-in-oil droplets, determines a rate for a series of droplets, or triggers a phase shift in the droplets. An external trigger generates the droplets based on the frequency of an XFEL utilized in droplet detection, thereby synchronizing a series of droplets with x-ray pulses for efficient crystal detection. The generated droplets can be coupled to an SFX with XFEL experiment compatible with common liquid injector such as a GDVN.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and media for selecting candidates for annotation for use in training classifiers are provided. In some embodiments, the method comprises: identifying, for a trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), a group of candidate training samples, wherein each candidate training sample includes a plurality of patches; for each patch of the plurality of patches, determining a plurality of probabilities, each probability being a probability that the patch corresponds to a label of a plurality of labels; identifying a subset of the patches in the plurality of patches; for each patch in the subset of the patches, calculating a metric that indicates a variance of the probabilities assigned to each patch; selecting a subset of the candidate training samples based on the metric; labeling candidate training samples in the subset of the candidate training samples by querying an external source; and re-training the CNN using the labeled candidate training samples.

Abstract: A system with an analyzer device in fluid communication with a sample of a bodily fluid is configured to chemically or electrochemically convert at least a portion of ammonium (NH4+) contained within the bodily fluid into ammonia (NH3) and dispel the converted ammonia (NH3) into a gas sensing chamber. An ammonia (NH3) sensor located within the gas sensing chamber in conjunction with a processor can quantify an amount of ammonia (NH3) present in the gas sensing chamber in relation to the total ammonia of the bodily fluid.
