Abstract:
A optical polarization controller for receiving an input light beam and outputting a transverse magnetic (TM) polarized light beam or transverse electric (TE) polarized light beam is provided. The optical polarization controller includes a polarization splitting device and a half-wave plate. The polarization splitting device is provided for receiving the input light beam and outputting a first light beam and a second light beam. In addition, the half-wave plate is switchably disposed in the light path of the first light beam or the second light beam.
Abstract:
Methods for increasing the elimination half-life of key metabolites such as d4T by administering an aryl phosphate derivative of d4T having an electron withdrawing substituent on the aryl group and an amino acid substituent on the phosphate group are described. A preferred aryl phosphate derivative of d4T is HI-113 (d4T-5′-[p-bromophenyl methoxyalaninyl phosphate]). The administration of HI-113 results in more prolonged systemic exposure to the key metabolites, Ala-d4T-MP and d4T, than administration of an equimolar dose of either metabolite. Each metabolite has a significantly longer elimination half life when formed in vivo from the administration of HI-113 than when the metabolite is administered directly.
Abstract:
A method and system for route selection and a method for route reconstruction. A mobile (or ad hoc) wireless network is divided into several clusters, each comprising a plurality of nodes. A source node in a cluster delivers a data packet to a destination node in accordance with a route table thereof if the destination node is located in the same cluster, and, if not, sends a route request packet to the destination node through a gateway node, determining a routing path to the destination node.
Abstract:
A compressor of an air conditioner of an automobile consists of a main body, a circular electromagnet fixedly disposed around a sleeve of the main body, a rotary wheel rotary about a sleeve fixedly disposed around the shaft, and a co-moving disk connected to the shaft; the co-moving disk can be attracted onto the wheel so as to rotate together with the wheel to cause the shaft of the main body to rotate when the electromagnet is powered, thus making the compressor function; the rotary wheel is formed with several vent holes near to an edge thereof for allowing airflow caused by rotation of the wheel to pass onto the main body as well as blades next to respective ones of the vent holes thereof for increasing rate of flow of air through the vent holes onto the main body.
Abstract:
A female screw rod is constructed to include a female screw rod adapted for mounting in a mounting hole of a motherboard to support an object above the motherboard, the female screw rod having an axially extended screw hole for the installation of a screw, and a quick-release cap connectable to the female screw rod to block the screw hole, the quick-release cap having a downwardly extended barrel-like coupling portion for capping on the female screw rod.
Abstract:
A lower die (10) for a bending machine includes a support member (40) and a work member (60), manufactured separately. The support member defines a longitudinal groove (44) in an upper surface thereof, a pair of longitudinal V-shaped slots (48) in opposite side walls thereof, and a plurality of screw holes (42) in a bottom surface thereof. A pair of shoulders (46) is formed on opposite sides of the groove. The work member comprises a position portion (66) for being accommodated in the groove, a pair of projections (68, 70) for abutting against the shoulders, and an upper wedge-shaped groove (72) for shaping a workpiece. The lower die is secured on a die shoe (20 or 20′) by screws (12) which extend through the die shoe and engage with the screw holes, or by engagement of the V-shaped slots with V-shaped protrusions (29′) of the die shoe (20′).
Abstract:
A variable clock rate device and a method of operating the device. When the display device is first initialized, a pixel clock and a memory read clock are set to the largest values. If the CPU reads from the memory area, the frequency of the pixel clock and the memory read clock is adjusted according to the frequency of the CPU update on-screen memory and the variation of the CPU change on-screen memory block. On the contrary, if the CPU does not initiate any updating, the pixel clock and the memory read clock are tuned down to the smallest possible values to conserve electricity.
Abstract:
An electronic retainer for preventing electromagnetic interference and capable of being absorbed mechanically is disclosed. The retainer has a through hole therein, and a temperature tolerant rubber piece is matched in the through hole. The temperature tolerant rubber piece is filled in the through hole of the retainer so that the retainer has a solid center. Therefore, the retainer can be absorbed by a robotic arm so that material-taking and assembly of the retainer is performed automatically. Thus, the manufacturing process is rapid and mass production can be achieved. Moreover, a screw passes through the through hole of the retainer and the fixing hole of the circuit board so that the retainer is fixed to a casing. By contacting of the screw 30 with the retainer 10, the circuit board may be electrically grounded through the tin ring, retainer, screw and the casing for achieving the object of preventing electromagnetic interference and thus the object of electromagnetic shielding is achieved. The retainer has the function of lifting the retainer, as the screw is rotated for fixing, it will not contact and rub the tin ring on the circuit board. Therefore, the tin ring will not be destroyed or drop out. Therefore, a preferred shielding effect is achieved.
Abstract:
A hair dyeing process which utilizes a hair dye in combination with a heat application means. By applying heat to a person's head, immediately after the dye has been applied, the hair can be quickly and efficiently dyed and hair damage is minimized. The heat application means (12) is disclosed in five designs: the first utilizes a conventional, hand-held, hot-air blower (14) in combination with a plastic head cap (18) such as a shower cap (20); the second utilizes the plastic head cap (16) having attached a light flexible hose (24) that is connected to a heat source (26); the third consists of a hot, moistened towel (32); the fourth consists of a corded, electric heating pad (40); the fifth consists of a cordless heating pad (42) that has inserted a multiplicity of heat absorbing elements (50). When the pad (42) is heated in a microwave oven the elements (50) allow the pad (42) to retain heat for an extended period of time.
