    Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed to manage interference caused by D2D communications. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) may include a processor. The processor may be configured to perform one or more of the following. The processor may determine to send information using a device-to-device transmission via a resource pool from a plurality of resource pools. Each resource pool may be associated with a range of reference signal receive power (RSRP) values. The processor may determine a RSRP measurement of a cell associated with the WTRU. The processor may select a resource pool from the plurality of resource pools based on the RSRP measurement of the cell. The RSRP measurement of the cell may be within the range of RSRP values associated with the selected resource pool. The processor may send the information using the selected resource pool.

    Abstract: An eNode-B for a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) downlink transmission to at least first and second wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) via resource elements (REs) of first and second spatial layers, the eNode-B comprising a transmitter and a processor, the processor coupled to the transmitter. The processor configured to generate the MU-MIMO downlink transmission including: allocating a first set of the REs, as first resources, to the first spatial layer for the first WTRU, and a second set of the REs, as second resources, to the second spatial layer for the second WTRU, mapping a first WTRU-specific reference signal (RS) associated with the first WTRU on a subset of the first resources, and a second WTRU-specific RS associated with the second WTRU on a subset of the second resources, muting allocated REs of the first resources overlapping with the subset of the second resources used for the second WTRU-specific RS, and allocated REs of the second resources overlapping with the subset of the first resources used for the first WTRU-specific RS. The transmitter configured to send the MU-MIMO downlink transmission.

    Abstract: Physical layer processing and procedures for device-to-device (D2D) discovery signal generation and transmission and scheduling of D2D discovery signals are described. Detection and measurement of a D2D discovery signal, D2D signal identity management, and monitoring by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) of PDCCH for D2D discovery scheduling is described, as is a WTRU that may be configured with a D2D-specific transmission/reception opportunity pattern. The discovery signal may carry a payload for explicit information about user and/or service identity, and may be mapped to physical resources in such a way as to decouple transmission/reception of the discovery signal from downlink operations. A WTRU may measure a D2D discovery signal quality and report to the network.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for performing device-to-device (D2D) discovery are described. A service discovery process may include a discoverable device (e.g., a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU)) sending a discovery request, over a wireless connection, for a radio resource for the purpose of performing a transmission for radio frequency (RF) proximity detection for a given service. The WTRU may receive a discovery response including a configuration for RF proximity detection from a network, which configuration may be associated to the service. The configuration for RF proximity may be received by dedicated signaling, (e.g., physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH)), in particular for a discoverable WTRU. The configuration for RF proximity may be received on a broadcast channel, (e.g., a discovery shared channel (DISCH)), in particular for a monitoring WTRU, and may include one or more service identities, each associated with an RF proximity detection configuration, or a validity information and a measurement configuration.

    Abstract: Embodiments include methods and apparatuses for the design, construction and selection of base patterns and associated control signaling for direct device-to-device (D2D) communication, independent of a network. An embodiment includes the selection and transmission, by a wireless transmit and receive unit (WTRU), of base patterns in a scheduling period when the number of medium access control (MAC) protocol data units (PDUs) is larger than the number of MAC PDUs that a family of pre-determined base patterns can support. An embodiment may include the selection and transmission, by a WTRU, of base patterns in a scheduling period when the number of MAC PDUs is smaller than the number of MAC PDUs that a family of pre-determined base patterns can support. In addition, embodiments may include the selection, by a WTRU, of a base pattern or base patterns to minimize interference with other communications and to use resources efficiently.
