The dialysis cassette also includes a pump assembly disposed within the cassette housing. The pump assembly includes a pump housing and a flexible rotor having a plurality of flexible vanes, where the flexible rotor is rotatable in either a clockwise direction or a counterclockwise direction to move a fluid through the plurality of channels.
Abstract:
It is described a kit for treating a systemic inflammatatory related disease comprising a) a high permeability filter having a pore size designed to let inflammatory mediators to pass and b) means to retain said mediators but not serum albumin.
Abstract:
An example medical device includes a sensor configured to sense a parameter of interest that changes as a function of a hemodialysis treatment parameter and generate a signal indicative of the sensed parameter of interest. The medical device includes memory configured to store an association between the parameter of interest and the hemodialysis treatment parameter. The medical device includes processing circuitry configured to receive the signal from the sensor. The processing circuitry also is configured to determine a modification to the hemodialysis treatment parameter based on the signal indicative of the parameter of interest and the association. The processing circuitry is also configured to automatically modify the hemodialysis treatment parameter based on the determined modification.
Abstract:
An example medical system includes a hemodialysis device configured to receive blood from vasculature of a patient via an arterial line and to deliver blood to the vasculature of the patient via a venous line. The medical system includes a hematocrit sensor configured to generate a signal indicative of a hematocrit level of blood in at least one of the arterial line or the venous line. The medical system also includes processing circuitry configured to determine a change in blood volume of the patient over time based on the signal indicative of the hematocrit level, determine a threshold blood volume reduction over time for the patient, compare the change in the blood volume of the patient over time to the threshold blood volume reduction over time, and based on the comparison, generate an indication of vascular access recirculation.
Abstract:
A connector includes a plug and a socket. The plug defines a channel extending between a plug inlet defined by the plug and a plug outlet defined by the plug, where the plug inlet is configured to mechanically and fluidically engage a first conduit. The socket includes a socket body defining a socket well and a socket membrane. The socket is configured to mechanically and fluidically engage a second conduit, and the plug is configured to insert into the socket well to mechanically mate with the socket. The socket membrane is positioned within the socket well and is biased to a closed position in which the socket membrane blocks fluid flow through the socket well. When the plug is inserted into the socket well, the socket membrane is configured to open to enable fluid flow through the socket well.
Abstract:
A connector including a plug configured to mechanically mate with a socket to establish a connection from a first conduit to a second conduit. The plug is configured to mechanically engage the first conduit and the socket is configured to mechanically engage the second conduit. In examples, the plug is configured to insert into a socket well of the socket. The connector includes an electromagnet configured to energize and produce a magnetic field when the plug mechanically mates with the socket. The electromagnet is configured such that the magnetic field generates an electromagnetic force on a plug armature of the plug to help sustain the mechanically mating of the plug and the socket. The connector may include a user device configured to provide an output indicating when the plug is mechanically mated or unmated with the socket.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a secondary packaging container and a method for packaging hemodialysis dialyzers. The container may comprise a box and at least a packaging division positioned horizontally to fit in the box. The packaging division contains a plurality of housing cavities capable of receiving a plurality of dialyzers. The disclosed secondary packaging container and method protects the integrity of hemodialysis dialyzers during transportation and storage.
Abstract:
Circulating free lambda and kappa free light chains in blood play a role in the pathogenesis of acute renal failure due to myeloma. Coupled plasma filtration and adsorption allows separation of plasma from blood and treatment of the plasma through a cartridge containing a sorbent or resin material, such as hydrophobic divinylbenzene styrenic resins having an average bead diameter of 75 microns, an average pore diameter of 30 nm, and a surface area of 700 m2/g. Lambda and kappa free light chain concentrations progressively decrease during coupled plasma filtration and adsorption treatment resulting in significant reductions by the end of the treatment.

Abstract:
In some examples, a filtration assembly for hemodiafiltration therapy includes a filtration body connector configured to removably mechanically connect the filtration assembly and a dialyzer. In examples, the filtration assembly is configured to remain substantially stationary relative to the dialyzer when the filtration assembly mechanically mates with the dialyzer. The filtration body connector is configured to removably mechanically connect the filtration assembly with a plurality of different types of dialyzers, which may be selected based on a prescription for a particular patient.
