    摘要: A brachytherapy device for the provision of brachytherapy is disclosed. The brachytherapy device has at least one source lumen located outside a movable surface of the device. The source lumen may be secured to the movable outer surface in a manner whereby relative movement of the source lumen relative to the movable outer surface is permitted. The brachytherapy device is inserted into a body cavity. After insertion, the movable surface is moved to position the at least one source lumen closer to the tissue boundary of the cavity. One or more sources of radiation are then placed within the at least one source lumen to provide a customizable treatment. Also disclosed are methods for providing brachytherapy via body cavities.

    摘要: Macrolide resistance associated with macrolide efflux (mef) in Streptococcus pneumoniae has been defined with respect to the genetic structure and dissemination of a novel mefE-containing chromosomal insertion element. The mefEgene is found on the 5′-end of a 5.5 kb or 5.4 kb insertion designated mega (macrolide efflux genetic assembly) found in at least four distinct sites of the pneumococcal genome. The element is transformable and confers macrolide resistance to susceptible S. pneumoniae. The first two open reading frames (ORFs) of the element form an operon composed of mefE and a predicted ATP-binding cassette homologous to msrA. Convergent to this efflux operon are three ORFs with homology to stress response genes of Tn5252. Mega is related to the recently described mefA-containing element Tn1207.1, but lacks genes necessary for transposition and has unique termini and insertion sites. Macrolide resistance due to mega has rapidly increased by clonal expansion of bacteria containing it and horizontally by transformation of previously sensitive bacteria.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for the efficient mapping of connectivity of telecommunications circuits where large numbers of such circuits are terminated at one end in concentrated bulk terminations. The apparatus regenerates multiple speech signals in a bulk termination adapter identifying both the bulk connector and the individual circuits terminating in the connector. A selectable group identity code allows many such units to be employed simultaneously to effect efficient mapping of hundreds of telecommunications circuits in one step even if concentration points occur in disparate locations. Speech reproduction is accomplished through a serial bit stream where the ratio of one bits to zero bits, varying with time, re-establishes a voice frequency signal with the aid of a simple filter circuit.
