Abstract:
A machine for rolling the outer races of bearings in an external die with the assistance of a rolling tool roller operating in overhanging relationship in a race blank to be rolled, and the roller is mounted to the end of an eccentric spindle fitted in a sleeve mounted in turn eccentrically in another sleeve, wherein the two sleeves are rotatably driven, the spindle and tool roller being rigidly assembled and rotatably driven from a motor at such speed that the apparent speed of the tool roller approaching the blank to be rolled is substantially zero, the sleeves being driven through an epicyclic gear train connected through two of its rotating members to the sleeves, these two members coacting with a third member of the gear train which consists of a reaction member responsive to a member controlling the relative angular displacement of the sleeves.
Abstract:
Method of rolling outer races of bearings in a die by means of a rolling tool roller operating under overhanging conditions in a blank of the race to be rolled, which consists in cold treating the race blank having a smaller diameter than said die, the treatment comprising preliminary rotating the roller at its contemplated rolling speed in the blank and, under constant stress conditions, causing the roller to penetrate into the blank, rolling this blank until the die is filled therewith, upsetting the blank material laterally while gauging the race, and then producing an initially slow backward movement of the roller in order to preserve the aforesaid gauging.
Abstract:
Seal for rolling-contact bearing, of the type adapted to be fitted in the outer race thereof or in a cavity intended for said bearing, which comprises two sealing lips directed the one radially towards the inner race and the other axially outwards of the seal and bearing assembly. The outer axial lip has a flattened triangular configuration and the edge having the smallest acute angle of this lip acts as a frictional contact element, the edge having the largest acute angle constituting a kind of circular hinge interconnecting the seal body and said lip, the circular edge of obtuse angle creating a reinforcing area between the edges of said lip, its width corresponding to about five times its thickness and its inclination corresponding to about 10* to about 60* in relation to the bearing axis. This seal is also applicable to other rotating members.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a device for the centerless loading, feeding and positioning cylindrical workpieces or workpieces of revolution in a centerless grinder, which comprises a vertical bearing surface against which the workpiece is urged laterally or axially, and a pair of radial bearing shoes disposed in proper angular relationship on a half-circumference above the horizontal axis of the workpiece of revolution, at least one of the shoes being responsive to the radial thrust of the grinding wheel, other elements being provided for feeding and positioning the workpieces, and also for ejecting the ground workpiece before another workpiece is fed to the grinding position.
Abstract:
This invention relates to the manufacture of rolling-contact bearings wherein the outer and inner races or rings were hitherto made of the same steel grade and subjected to a heat treatment with or without a preliminary cementation. According to this invention, the inner races of the bearings are made of cementation steel and the outer races as well as the rolling-contact members, such as balls and rollers from corehardened alloy steel. The treatment consists of a case-hardening or cementation applied to the inner races and of a hardening process applied to the outer races and rolling bodies.
Abstract:
The device comprises the combination of two movable wedge members having each a moderately inclined plane, said wedge members being displaceable in two directions substantially at right angles to each other, the first wedge member abutting at the end of the approach stroke of the grinding wheel against a fixed stop of the frame structure of the machine, the second wedge member determining the end position of the first one, electric means for detecting the end position of the first wedge member in relation to the other one and controlling the finishing and planishing operations performed on the workpiece, by controlling the relative positions of the wedge members.
Abstract:
A cageless bearing whose rolling members are mounted continguously between two rings one of which is rigid and the other of which is a radially resilient ring which subjects the rolling members to a predetermined prestressing, the length of the free portion of the resilient ring or of its part lying between its end mounting being at least about three times the length of its contact generatrix with the cylindrical rolling members at least about three times the width of the groove when the rolling members are formed by balls.
Abstract:
In this railway axle box bearing mounting two rows of cylindrical rollers are disposed between the axle and the box body; between these rows, a single-row or two-row ball bearing of the oblique contact type is interposed; the roller bearings bear the radial load alone, and the ball bearing bear the axial load alone, in either direction.
Abstract:
A work feed device for a centreless grinding machine comprises a cylinder housing a pusher piston, rigid with a workpiecesupporting shoe and a control piston. The control piston is linked to the pusher piston by resilient means in the form of a cushion of compressed gas and by a telescopic element which determines the maximum spacing between the pistons. The pressure of the compressed gas is adjustable.
