    Abstract: A system is provided that enables the delivery of multiple concurrent mobile applications to a mobile communication device. A concurrency application server interfaces to a mobile switching center to obtain call parameters in order to determine a context of a mobile device call. The concurrency application server also interfaces with equipment in a data network. A concurrency application plug-in resides on the mobile communication device to enable the device to switch between two or more active mobile applications on the device, either under user control or automatically. The concurrency application server determines a context of a call or other activity engaged by the mobile device user to determine what additional content to deliver for display on the mobile device, or what other mobile applications to invoke for the mobile device.

    Abstract: A method is provided for assisting a mobile communication device user in entering a phone number for which a call is desired to be placed. When a user enters the alphanumeric characters upon initiating a calling session, the characters are analyzed together with criteria information to generate a list of a list of candidate or suggested phone numbers for presentation to the mobile device user. The mobile device user may then select a phone number from the list to execute the phone call. The intelligence to generate the list of candidate phone numbers may reside in a computing device (e.g., server) remote from the mobile communication device and connected to the network infrastructure equipment through which the mobile device communicates, or may reside in the mobile device itself. In the latter case, the mobile device may receive updates to the criteria information used to generate the list of candidate phone numbers.

    Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for internetworking WWAN and WLAN are disclosed. More specifically, a method, system, and apparatus for a mobile station to sense and select a WLAN or a WWAN are disclosed. A mobile station may communicate according to an 802.xx wireless local area network air interface protocol via WLAN logic or according to a wireless wide area network air interface protocol via WWAN logic. The mobile station detects RF energy in the 802.xx spectrum and, in response to the energy detection, determines whether there is an 802.xx WLAN capable of servicing the mobile station by performing a scanning operation. If there is an 802.xx WLAN capable of servicing the mobile station, the mobile station selects the WLAN logic so that it may communicate via an air interface. Under some embodiments, WWAN has information identifying the areas in which capable WLANs operate and the WWAN provisions the mobile station with at least a subset of such information. The mobile station uses such area-identifying information to determine whether to perform the RF energy detection operation. The information may be cell ids, or GPS information.

    Abstract: A proxy switch, communication methods, and communication logic for use in a mobile network are described. A proxy switch is deployed between a base station subsystem and a mobile station center. It receives signaling messages and either retransmits them, blocks them, converts them, or siphons them to an alternative network. Besides providing an ability to offload offload mobile traffic it provides a platform for new communication services. A proxy switch includes signaling message handling logic for receiving signaling messages from the MSC and BS in accordance with said mobile signaling protocol. Message transmission logic issues messages to the MSC and BS. A FSN and a BSN are provided for communication with the MSC, and another FSN/BSN pair are provided for communication with the BS. Logic detects whether a received message is a change over order message (COO) from one of the MSC and BS, indicating a break in a first signaling link between the proxy switch and the one of the MSC and BS, and logic generates and sends a COA message to the one of the MSC and BS containing the BSN maintained by the switch for communication with the one of the MSC and BS. Fault emulation logic forces a break in a second signaling link between the proxy switch and the other of the MSC and BS, wherein the second signaling link is configured to correspond to the first signaling link, and generates and sends a new COO message to the other of the MSC and BS.
