Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of mucin isoforms, more in particular for use in the diagnosis, monitoring, prevention and/or treatment of a disease characterized by barrier dysfunction, such as but not limited to a gastrointestinal disorder (e.g. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), cancer, gastro-intestinal infections, obesitas, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)), neurodegenerative disorders, respiratory infections, . . . In a specific embodiment, said mucin isoform is selected from the list comprising: MUC1 isoforms and MUC13 isoforms.

Abstract: A wireless communication device comprises a control unit, an antenna interface, an active wireless transceiver operable together with the control unit and antenna interface, a passive wireless transceiver operable together with the antenna interface and operable by harvesting power from received radio messages. The device is further configured to deactivate the one or more active wireless transceivers and control unit to an inactive state and, subsequently, by the passive wireless transceiver, activate the control unit and an active wireless transceiver to an active state when the passive wireless transceiver receives a message from the antenna interface.

Abstract: The present invention in general relates to a method for the deacylation and/or dealkylation (both O-dealkylation as well as C-dealkylation) of compounds, more specifically of aromatic compounds. The method is characterized by contacting the compound with an acid-containing aqueous reaction mixture using high temperature and high pressure conditions. The invention also provides a method for preparing a compound suitable for further deacylation using the method of the invention.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a novel isolated bacterial strain of the Lactobacillus casei (L. casei) species. More in particular, the strain of the Lactobacillus casei species deposited under accession number LMG P-30039. The present invention further relates to the novel L. casei strain for use in the treatment and/or prevention of infections and/or immune-related diseases. Also the use of the isolated novel L. casei strain or a composition comprising said strain as an adjuvant to promote an immune response during vaccination is disclosed. Further, the use of said novel L. casei strain or a composition comprising said strain in personal hygiene industry, cleaning industry, biomass production, air purification and food industry is disclosed. In another aspect of the present invention, the use of a L. casei species that has a whole genome G/C content of at least 47.5% and expresses one or more catalase genes or a composition comprising one or more of said L. casei species in personal hygiene industry, cleaning industry, biomass production, air purification and food industry is disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to microbiome-safe cosmetic cleaning compositions (i.e. soaps) and uses thereof in preserving the natural microflora of the human or animal skin/vagina. These cleaning compositions may also be beneficially used in combination with topical probiotic therapies, which may be compromised when using classical soaps. In particular, the present invention provides cosmetic cleaning compositions comprising at least one organic acid, as preservative; and at least one glycerol ester as surfactant. For these compositions it was found that they have the typical characteristics of a soap without the negative effects on the natural microflora of the skin/vagina.

Abstract: A system for imaging a target object comprises a first unmanned vehicle including a source of penetrating radiation. The first vehicle positions the source such as to direct the radiation toward the target object. A second unmanned vehicle comprises an image detector for registering a spatial distribution of the radiation as an image, in which the second vehicle positions the detector to register the distribution of radiation when transmitted through the target object. These unmanned vehicles are autonomous vehicles adapted for independent propelled motion, and comprise a positioning unit for detecting a position of the vehicle. A processing unit controls the motion of the unmanned vehicles to acquire at least two images corresponding to at least two different projection directions of the radiation through the target object. The processing unit is adapted for generating data representative of an internal structure of the target object from the at least two images.
