Abstract:
The present invention provides isolated DNA molecules comprising a DNA segment encoding novel human Kunitz-type inhibitors. Also provided are DNA constructs comprising a first DNA segment encoding a novel human Kunitz-type inhibitor wherein said first DNA segment is operably linked to additional DNA segments required for the expression for the first DNA segment, as well as host cells containing such DNA constructs and methods for producing proteins from the host cells.
Abstract:
null-alethine is employed in the differentiation, phenotypic expression, and vitalization of cells, for both in vivo and in vitro applications. Particular applications include the use of null-alethine in the treatment of immune disorders and diseases, and in the promotion of cell cultures.
Abstract:
The invention provides methods for detecting the presence or absence of invasive trophoblast cells. In addition, the invention provides methods for distinguishing quiescent trophoblast diseases from invasive trophoblast diseases and methods for monitoring progression of quiescent trophoblast diseases. The invention provides methods for detecting the presence or absence of germ cell tumors.
Abstract:
A self-assembling element fabricated using integrated circuit techniques may provide a small diameter helical conductor surrounding an electron beam for the construction of a vacuum electronic device such as a traveling-wave tube for terahertz scale signal.
Abstract:
A method is provided for building improved calibration models or for improving modifications to these models or validation of the models used in the non-invasive spectroscopic measurement of an analyte or attribute of tissue. The method uses a matched reference sample and measurement of that sample to ensure that the correct relationship between the spectra and analyte is made during the model building, modification or calibration process. A matched reference sample is one in which the analyte of interest or attribute of interest in the reference sample is representative of the analyte or attribute at the site being non-invasively sampled or the agreement between the reference concentration and the non-invasively sampled concentration is clinically significant.
Abstract:
Methods for fabricating thin, high-aspect-ratio Ge nanostructures from high-quality, single-crystalline Ge substrates are provided. Also provided are grating structures made using the methods. The methods utilize a thin layer of graphene between a surface of a Ge substrate, and an overlying resist layer. The graphene passivates the surface, preventing the formation of water-soluble native Ge oxides that can result in the lift-off of the resist during the development of the resist.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a wavelength tunable semiconductor laser comprising a laser gain section (510) optically coupled to an underlying optical waveguide (520). According to an embodiment of the invention, a first and a second passive microring resonators (530, 560) having a whistle geometry, are arranged on both sides of the laser gain section and evanescently coupled with the optical waveguide (520). Highly reflective broadband mirrors (541, 571) are provided at the free ends of optical waveguide branches (240, 270) tangentially connected to the microring resonators. The first and second passive microrings resonators provide an optical feedback to the laser gain section and allow to select the desired wavelength. The laser structure can be implemented according to a III-V/Si technology.
