Abstract: Described herein is a method of purifying a product and recycling water comprising the following steps: (i) providing a crude product comprising at least one low molecular weight fluoroorganic compounds wherein the low molecular weight fluoroorganic compounds is partially fluorinated and comprises a polar group and/or a reactive group; (ii) extracting the impurity from the product using water to form an extract, (iii) contacting the extract with a radical-forming process to degrade the low molecular weight fluoroorganic compounds into carbon dioxide, water, fluorine ions, and optionally cations; and (iv) using the water from step (iii) in step (ii)

Abstract: A method of making a highly fluorinated polymers and resulting aqueous mixtures. The method comprising polymerizing one or more perfluorinated monomers in an aqueous emulsion polymerization in the presence of a polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier to form a perfluorinated polymer. The polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier has the formula X2C═CX(CF2)m(CH2)n[O—(CX2)p]q—[O—(CX2)r]s—[O—(CX2—CX2)]t—[(O)w—(CX2)u]v—[CH2]z—Y. The method also provides for isolating the highly fluorinated polymer and post-fluorinating the isolated highly fluorinated polymer.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a process for removing fluoroorganic acidic compounds from a solution comprising at least one protic solvent, comprising: forming a mixture of a solution comprising at least one fluoroorganic acidic compound comprising less than 15 carbon atoms and protic solvent, wherein the solution has a pH of 4, with an extraction composition comprising at least one trialkylamine and organic solvent; reacting the fluoroorganic acidic compound with the trialkylamine to form a hydrophobic ionic compound comprising the anion of the fluoroorganic acidic compound and the cation of the trialkylamine; separating the mixture into a first phase comprising the protic solvent and at most 50 wt. % of the fluoroorganic acidic compound present in the initial solution; and a second phase comprising the organic solvent and hydrophobic ionic compound; removing the second phase from the first phase; and repeating steps aforementioned at least once more, wherein the first phase obtained in the last step is used as the initial solution.
