Provided are a tetrafluoroethylene copolymers having a melting point of at least 317° C., a melt flow index (MFI) at 372° C. and a 5 kg load (MFI 372/5) of from about 0.60 g/10 min up to about 15 g/10 min. Also provided are methods of forming a shaped article using the copolymers described above, shaped articles made with those copolymers and compositions containing such copolymers.

Described herein is a fluorothermoplast with long chain branching and a method of making such a polymer using a modifier of the formula: F2C═CF(CF2)a(O)RfH wherein a is 0 or 1 and Rf is a linear or branched fluorinated alkylene group comprising 1 to 5 carbon atoms and optionally comprising at least one ether linkage and optionally comprising 1 or 2 hydrogen atoms. This fluorothermoplast may be processed through polymer melt processes, such as blow molding, injection molding, film extrusion, and wire extrusion. Preferably, said polymer contains structural units derived from tetrafluoroethylene and a perfluorinated olefin or ether, and comprises chain branching.

A tetrafluoroethene copolymer having a melting point of from about 240° C. to 325° C., a melt flow index (MFI at 372° C. and 5 kg load) of 0.5-80 grams/10 minutes and having at least 70% by weight of units derived from tetrafluoroethene and further comprising units derived from at least one perfluorinated alkyl allyl ether (PAAE) comonomer corresponding to the general formula: CF2═CF—CF2—O—Rf (I) where Rf is a perfluorinated alkyl residue having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and wherein the alkyl chain of the residue may be interrupted once or more than once by an oxygen atom and further, optionally, comprising units derived from perfluoromethyl vinyl ether (PMVE), perfluoroethyl vinyl ether (PEVE) and a combination thereof and wherein the content of units CA derived PAAEs and, optionally, PMVE, PEVE or a combination thereof, is at least 1.0% by weight.

The copolymer includes divalent units represented by formula —[CF2-CF2]—, divalent units represented by formula: (I), and one or more divalent units independently represented by formula: (II) When Z is hydrogen, the copolymer has an alpha transition temperature of up to 100 ?C. The copolymer has an —SO3Z equivalent weight in a range from 300 to 1400, and a variation of the copolymer in which —SO3Z is replaced with —SO2F has a melt flow index of up to 80 grams per ten minutes measured at a temperature of 265° C. and at a support weight of 5 kg. A catalyst ink or polymer electrolyte membrane including the copolymer are also provided.

A copolymer having tetrafluoroethylene units, hexafluoropropylene units, and units independently represented by formula in a range from 0.02 to 2 mole percent, based on the total amount of the copolymer. Rf is a linear or branched perfluoroalkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and optionally interrupted by one or more —O— groups, z is 1 or 2, each n is independently from 1 to 6, and m is 0 or 1. The copolymer has a melt flow index in a range from 25 grams per 10 minutes to 35 grams per 10 minutes and has a combined number of unstable end groups and —CF2H end groups in a range from 25 per 106 carbon atoms up to 120 per 106 carbon atoms. The copolymer can be extruded to make articles, such as insulated cables. A method of making the copolymer is also disclosed.

A copolymer having tetrafluoroethylene units, hexafluoropropylene units, and units independently represented by formula in a range from 0.001 to 2 mole percent, based on the total amount of the copolymer. In these units, a is 0 or 1, each b is independently from 1 to 4, c is 0 to 4, d is 0 or 1, and e is 1 to 6. In the —SO2X groups, X is independently —F, —NH2, —OH, or —OZ, wherein Z is independently a metallic cation or a quaternary ammonium cation. The copolymer has a melt flow index in a range from 20 grams per 10 minutes to 40 grams per 10 minutes. The copolymer can be extruded to make articles, such as insulated cables. A method of making the copolymer is also disclosed.

Described herein is a peroxide curable, partially fluorinated polymer derived from: (a) comonomers comprising: (i) 5-28 wt. % of tetrafluoroethylene; (ii) 30-70 wt. % of vinylidene fluoride; and (iii) a monomer selected from 10-45 wt. % of hexafluoropropylene and 10-40 wt, % of a perfluoro ether monomer of the formula Rf-0-(CF2)n—CF═CF2 wherein n is 1 or 0, and Rf represents a perfluoroalkyl residue which may or may not be interrupted by one or more than one oxygen atoms; (b) 0.01-2 wt % of a perfluorinated iodinated vinyl ether based on the total amount of comonomer, wherein the perfluorinated iodinated vinyl ether has the formula: F2C═CF—(CF2)m(0)o—(CF2)n—O—(CF2)p—I where m is 0 or 1; n is an integer of 0-5: o is 0 or 1: and p is an integer of 1-5, wherein when n is 0, o is 0; and (c) 0.01-2 wt % of a chain transfer agent based on the total amount of comonomers wherein the chain transfer agent consists of a diiodo-fluoroalkane and a diiodo-methane.
