Abstract: A method of performing de-excitation of a brushless synchronous machine having a stator; and a rotor including: a field winding, an exciter armature, a rectifier having thyristors, the rectifier having input terminals connected to the exciter armature and output terminals connected to the field winding, a field discharge resistor connected in series with the field winding, and a bypass switch connected in parallel with the field discharge resistor, the bypass switch being operable between a closed state in which the field discharge resistor is bypassed, and an open state, wherein the method including: a) controlling the thyristors to fire only during a negative half-cycle of the armature voltage waveforms, and b) controlling the bypass switch to obtain the open state from the closed state to thereby discharge a field winding current through the field discharge resistor.

Abstract: Unique systems, methods, techniques and apparatuses of an exciterless synchronous generator are disclosed. One exemplary embodiment is an exciterless synchronous generator comprising a stator, a rotor, and a startup excitation system. The stator includes a set of stator windings. The rotor includes an energy harvest winding, a DC power supply including a DC bus and coupled to the energy harvest winding, and a field winding coupled to the DC power supply. The startup excitation system comprises one of a magnetic field generation system structured to generate a magnetic field received by the energy harvest winding in response to a rotation of the rotor, wherein the magnetic field is converted to DC power with the DC power supply and transmitted to the field winding; or a rotor DC power source including and diode coupled in series across the DC bus.

Abstract: A method of identifying parameters of a motor system having an electric motor assembly and a control system, for vibration reduction in the electric motor assembly, the method including: a) sweeping a frequency of an oscillating reactive torque injected into the electric motor, b) determining a natural frequency of the motor system, the natural frequency being the frequency at which the oscillating reactive torque produces a maximum amplitude of a vibration-related parameter obtained based on vibration-related measurements by sensors mounted to the electric motor, c) incrementally increasing a magnitude of reactive torque oscillating at the natural frequency, injected to the electric motor, d) obtaining a magnitude of the vibration-related parameter for each magnitude of the reactive torque injected in step c), and e) determining, for each magnitude of the injected reactive torque, a gain and a phase response of the motor system, the gain being determined based on the magnitude of the injected reactive torque and the corresponding magnitude of the vibration-related parameter, and the phase response being determined based on a phase angle of the injected reactive torque and a phase angle of the corresponding vibration-related parameter.

In the method for controlling vibration of a variable frequency drive controlled electric machine, the resonance frequency/frequencies and the stiffness are determined in a ramp up/ramp down test; amount of damping is determined in an impulse test; a mechanical transfer function is determined in a steady drive test; a vibration control model is determined utilizing said resonance frequency/frequencies, said stiffness, the amount of damping and the mechanical transfer function; and vibration is controlled utilizing the vibration control model.

Abstract: A method for preventing a frequency component of a voltage from occurring in an electrical machine including the steps of: obtaining, either by measuring a voltage signal or a current signal from the electrical machine in time domain and transforming the measured signal into frequency domain, by simulating or deducing a first frequency component present in the electrical machine in absence of a grounding, the first frequency component representing a first undesired frequency higher than a limit frequency of 500 Hz; and providing the electrical machine with a first grounding at a grounding location, the first grounding including a resonant circuit resonating at the first undesired frequency. In order to get rid of harmful shaft voltages in the form of sharp voltage peaks at high frequencies, it is first necessary to determine at which undesired frequency or frequencies these voltage peaks occur. Only thereafter can a low impedance grounding be provided that works satisfactorily at the undesired frequency or frequencies.

Abstract: A robot system includes: a robot arm having a plurality of links and joints by which one of the links is connected to another; sensors for determining, for any one of the joints, an angular velocity of the joint and a torque to which the joint is subject; a neural network connected to the sensors, the neural network receiving therefrom angular velocity and torque data, the neural network being trained to distinguish, based on the angular velocity and torque data, between a normal operation condition of the robot arm, a condition in which the robot arm collides with an outside object, and a condition where a person deliberately interacts with the robot arm; and a controller for controlling motion of the robot arm, a mode of operation of which is variable depending on an operation condition signal output by the neural network. One operation mode is a leadthrough mode.

Abstract: A rotor bar fault in a rotor of an electrical machine having a plurality of rotor bars and an end ring configured to short circuit the rotor bars. The method includes the steps of measuring a first temperature at a first end ring location, and measuring a second temperature at a second end ring location, the second end ring location being different from the first end ring location. As broken rotor bars cause a non-uniform temperature distribution in the end ring, the detection of rotor bar faults can be based on monitored temperatures at different end ring locations.
