Abstract: A measurement instrument and method: produce light having a linear shape; direct the light toward an eye via a first lens located one focal length from the light source; provide returned light, having the linear shape, from the eye to a split-prism; split the returned light into first and second linear segments; image the first and second linear segments onto an image sensor; determine a first lateral offset between the first and second linear segments on the image sensor at a first time; determine a second lateral offset between the first and second linear segments on the image sensor at a second time; determine a difference between the first and second lateral offsets; and determine a distance that the eye moved relative to the first lens between the first time and the second time based on the difference between the first and second lateral offsets.

Abstract: An optical coherence tomography (OCT) system includes: a light source; a multi-focal delay line; and a light detector. The multi-focal delay line includes: a positive lens; and an optical switch configured to: receive a light from the light source; selectively direct the sample light to the positive lens via a selected one of a plurality of light interfaces each located a different distance from the focal plane of the positive lens; and direct the sample light to an object to be measured. The light detector is configured to receive return light returned from the object to be measured in response to the sample light, and to receive a reference light produced from the light from the light source, and in response thereto to detect at least one interference signal. An associated OCT method may be performed with the OCT system.

Abstract: A system includes: a first movable stage which is movable with respect to an eye of a subject; a second movable stage mounted on the first movable stage, wherein the second movable stage is movable with respect to the first movable stage; a fixation target disposed on the second movable stage; and an optical system disposed in an optical path between the fixation target and the eye, wherein the optical system is configured for projecting the fixation target upon the eye to accommodate the eye, and wherein moving the second movable stage to a position where the fixation target is moved away from the eye by an additional amount causes blur cues of the fixation target to indicate to the subject that the fixation target is moving away from the eye while the size of an image of the fixation target on the retina of the eye decreases.

Abstract: An apparatus and method: project a plurality of light spots onto a cornea of an eye having a tear film disposed thereon, wherein the light spots are broadband light spots or are narrowband light spots whose bandwidth is tuned in time across a broad bandwidth; image the light spots from the cornea onto at least one two-dimensional detector array; spectrally resolve each of the plurality of imaged light spots; perform interferometry on the spectrally resolved imaged light spots to identify an anterior interface and a posterior interface of the tear film of the eye; and determine a thickness of the tear film as a distance between the anterior interface and the posterior interface.
