Method and device for intensifying the dewatering of a web in a paper machine press section having a compact roll combination and a separate press. The web is pressed in press nips formed by a compact roll combination. Thereafter, the web is transferred on a paper guide roll onto the outer face of the press felt of the separate press, on which felt the web is transferred into the nip of the separate press. The web runs over the lower sector of the paper guide roll and before the web is transferred into the nip of the separate press, the web as well as the press felt of the separate press are heated by means of heating devices. By means of these devices, the temperature levels both of the web and of the outer face of the press felt of the separate nip which felt reaches contact with the web are raised so that the dewatering is substantially intensified in the separate nip.

The press section comprises a first press zone, means for passing the fibrous web in a closed draw to the first press zone, means for changing running direction of the web after the first press zone to substantially reverse the running direction thereof, a second press zone disposed after the means for changing the running direction of the web, and a central roll forming a part of the first and second press zones, with the first and second press zones being disposed substantially opposite one another about the central press roll and constituting means for compensating compression load and weight of the central press roll, and also comprising means for directing the web in a closed draw out of the press section after the second press zone. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of disposing first and second press zones substantially opposite one another about a central roll, pressing the running web in the first press zone, changing the running direction of the web after the first press zone, directing the web into the second press zone, pressing the web in this second press zone, and directing the running web in a closed draw away from the second press zone.

Apparatus for the press treatment of a fiber web in a long or extended press zone includes a first press fabric loop in which a press roll is situated and a press shoe situated within a press belt loop which acts in opposition to the press roll, the latter being supported on a transverse beam. The press roll and press shoe together form an extended press zone through which the web to be pressed is guided. The press shoe includes a pressure chamber isolated from the external environment by sealing members and to which a pressure medium, such as a fluid under pressure, is passed. The pressure chamber acts within the extended press zone on the press belt. According to the invention, the pressure chamber of the press shoe comprises a hydrostatic pressure chamber which, when viewed in the direction of web run, is bounded at its front and rear by hydrodynamic press shoes which function both as sealing elements for the hydrostatic pressure chamber and, additionally, as press-shoe members which produce compression pressures on the press belt and on the web.

Between the former section (100) and the press section (110) there is a pre-press zone (PP) which removes water from the web (W) and through which the web (W) is passed as a closed draw from the former section (100) to the press section (110). The upper wet wire (10) or the equivalent transfer wire (10A) of the former section (100) is passed through the pre-press zone (PP), the web (W) being passed on the lower face of said wire into and through the pre-press zone (PP). Inside the loop of the upper wet wire (10) or of the equivalent transfer wire (10A) and/or inside the loop of the lower wet wire (20) there are transfer devices (15, 15a, 16, 26) based on the use of a pressure difference. In the pre-press zone or zones, a substantial amount of water is removed out of the web substantially in one direction only, and, at the same time, the web is made to adhere reliably to the outside face of the transfer belt.

Method and device in the manufacture of paper or board for dewatering of a paper web that is being manufactured. The paper web is transferred from a forming wire onto a wire in the drying section while constantly on support of a fabric that receives water, a transfer fabric, or of any other, corresponding transfer surface as a closed draw, at a particularly high speed, which is higher than about 25-30 m/s. Dewatering of the paper web is carried out by means of at least two subsequent press nips, of which nips at least one press nip is a so-called extended-nip zone, whose length in a machine direction is larger than about 100 mm. The extended-nip zone is formed in connection with a mobile flexible press-band loop. The distribution of the compression pressure employed within said extended-nip press zone is regulated and/or selected both in the transverse direction of the web and in the machine direction so as to set or to control the different profiles of properties of the web.
