One of the first TFs is determined as a reference TF for a second TF other than the first TFs in the TF set. Then, a second gain factor for the second TF is calculated using the first gain factor for the determined reference TF. The second gain factor is used for transmitting or receiving uplink data.

A method and apparatus for transmitting/receiving a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) in a communication system are provided. It is determined whether there is any uplink data to transmit, when a CQI transmission time arrives according to a predetermined CQI transmission period. If there is uplink data to transmit, a part of the uplink data is punctured to insert the CQI therein, and the inserted CQI is multiplexed with the uplink data before transmission. It is determined whether there is any uplink data to receive from a terminal, when a CQI reception time arrives according to a predetermined CQI transmission period. If there is uplink data to receive, the uplink data is received from the terminal, and the received uplink data is demultiplexed to extract the CQI.

The method includes mapping first primary broadcast channel (P1-BCH) symbols including basic system information to a middle band centered at a center frequency of a system band and having a broadcast channel (BCH) transmission bandwidth, and mapping second primary broadcast channel (P2-BCH) symbols including core system information excluding the basic system information to first and second transmission bands that have the BCH transmission bandwidth and locate within both bands adjoining the center frequency on both sides thereof and having a minimum reception bandwidth supportable by User Equipments (UEs) within a cell respectively, when a bandwidth of the system band is at least two times of a minimum reception bandwidth. In this way, the method and system facilitates a UE to move between cells.

A sounding reference signal transmission method which is efficient in an uplink wireless telecommunications system using a multiple antenna technique and sounding reference signal hopping. A terminal using the multiple antenna technique is equipped with a plurality of antennas, and a base station receives the sounding reference signal transmitted from these antennas and estimates the uplink channel state of each antenna. Moreover, the sounding reference signal performs frequency hopping so that the base station determines the channel condition for the entire bandwidth to which data is transmitted in the uplink system. The sounding reference signal is transmitted through an antenna pattern in which the sounding reference signal can be transmitted through the entire data transmission bandwidth of the uplink system for each antenna of the terminal without additional overhead in this environment.

An apparatus and method in which an Enhanced Uplink Dedicated transport CHannel (EUDCH) is used in a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) system is provided. In a User Equipment (UE), when physical channels for transmitting EUDCH data are transmitted in addition to existing physical channels, a Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of an uplink transport signal increases. The increase in PAPR depends upon Orthogonal Variable Spreading Factor (OVSF) codes allocated to the corresponding physical channels and In-phase/Quadrature-phase (I/Q) channels. Therefore, the apparatus and method allocate optimum OVSF codes and I/Q channels to EUDCH-related physical channels in order to minimize an increase in PAPR due to EUDCH.

The method includes acquiring Primary Synchronization CHannel (P-SCH) sequence and Secondary Synchronization CHannel (S-SCH) sequence; mapping the P-SCH sequence and the S-SCH sequence onto subcarriers; generating OFDM symbols including the P-SCH sequence and the S-SCH sequence mapped onto subcarriers; and transmitting the OFDM symbols, wherein a frame comprising a plurality of OFDM symbols, a part of the plurality of OFDM symbols in the frame is used for transmitting Synchronization CHannel (SCH) comprising P-SCH and S-SCH, and wherein the P-SCH and the S-SCH are mapped to adjacent OFDM symbols and the S-SCH is mapped to subcarriers with a predetermined interval in a frequency domain within an OFDM symbol.
