Demulsifier elements 40, (only one shown), for parallel flow are each arranged in a receptacle 44 on a movable platform 42 beneath a slotted tube 52 in a fixed partition 28 so that after removal and replacement the elements may be rapidly and simultaneously raised and aligned by attaching a crank to the end 76 of a threaded member 60 and rotating it. Filter elements 46 (only one shown) are similarly mounted in an upper chamber 24 arranged in series with the first chamber 22. Fuel passes out at 36 and water at 38. In Fig. 2, (not shown), the lower platform is supported by a plate carried by the lower end of a vertical rod and the upper platform is similarly supported at the upper end of the rod, the platforms being raised simultaneously, on rotation of the rod, by threaded engagement of the rod with a bushing depending from the partition 28.

    Abstract: 1,107,607. Fuel-water separator. BENDIX CORPORATION. 9 June, 1965 [19 June. 1964], No. 24435/65. Heading B1D. A fuel-water separator 14 comprises an outward flow pleated paper filter element 74 and glass fibre coalescer/filter element 76 and an inward flow metal screen 78 coated with polytetrafluoroethylene in a common housing, these members being arranged in series so that fuel reaches outlet 28 and water is held back by screen 78. the water being continually discharged through a small orifice 100, in an annular casing containing coalescing glass fibres 98, to sump port 30 of the housing. The separator 14 is connected in a circuit (Fig. 1, not shown) including fuel tank (10), pump (12) and water discharge device (16) (as in Specification 1,093,188), and orifice 100 is designed to return a sufficient proportion of fuel from the separator (14) to tank (10), via device (16), that all the water is taken with it. Glass fibres 98 demulsify the water and fuel which may be emulsified by passages through orifice 100. Downward flow wire mesh screen 102 prevents solid particles from reaching and clogging orifice 100. The upper end cap of annular screen 78 is extended outwards and clamped between head 50 and bowl 58 of the housing. Its lower end cap 80 abuts the upper end cap 68 of elements 74. 76 and the caps make seals 84. 70 with inlet/outlet tube 52 of head 50.

Separated water leaves at port 16, air at port 18, and fuel leaving at port 14 is metered.
