Abstract: A noise cancelling headset includes an earpiece, the earpiece including a feedback microphone, a feed-forward microphone, and an output driver. A first feedback filter receives an input from at least the first feedback microphone and produces a first filtered feedback signal. A first feed-forward filter receives an input from at least the first feed-forward microphone and produces a first filtered feed-forward signal. A first summer combines the first filtered feedback signal and the first filtered feed-forward signal and produces a first output signal. An output interface provides the first output signal as an output from the headset.

In some cases, the conversation assistance audio device is configured to use a set of simulated audio environments to personalize audio settings for a user. Abstract: An off-head detection system for an in-ear headset comprises an input device that receives an audio signal, a feed-forward microphone signal, and a driver output signal; an expected-output computation circuit that predicts a value of the driver output signal based on a combination of the audio signal and the feed-forward microphone signal from the signal monitoring circuit, and off-head data from the off-head model; and a comparison circuit that compares the observed output signal provided to the driver and the computed expected output to determine an off-head state of the in-ear headset.

Abstract: Signals in an automobile audio system having at least two near-field speakers located close to an intended position of a listener's head are adjusted such that in a first mode, audio signals are distributed to the near-field speakers according to a first filter that causes the listener to perceive a wide soundstage, and in a second mode, the audio signals are distributed to the near-field speakers according to a second filter that causes the listener to perceive a narrow soundstage. A user input of a variable value is received and, in response, distribution of the audio signals is transitioned from the first mode to the second mode, the extent of the transition being variable based on the value of the user input.

Abstract: An automobile audio system having at least two near-field speakers located close to an intended position of a listener's head is configured by determining a first binaural filter that causes sound produced by each of the near-field speakers to have characteristics at the intended position of the listener's head of sound produced by a sound source located at a first designated position other than the actual locations of the near-field speakers, determining an up-mixing rule to generate at least three component channel signals from an input audio signal having at least two channels, and configuring the audio system to, determine a first binaural signal corresponding to a combination of the component channel signals originating at the first designated position, and filter the first binaural signal using the first binaural filter and to output the filtered signals using the near-field speakers.

Abstract: A multimedia system includes at least a first pair of satellite loudspeakers for radiating left and right channel signals, the satellite loudspeakers having a first lower cutoff frequency. The loudspeaker system also includes a separate subwoofer having a first upper cutoff frequency. The first lower cutoff frequency is higher in frequency than the first upper cutoff frequency. The loudspeaker system also includes a center loudspeaker array. The center loudspeaker array radiates center channel signals, and also directionally radiates left and right channel signals in the frequency range between the first lower cutoff frequency and the first upper cutoff frequency. The multi-channel loudspeaker system may also incorporate additional satellite loudspeakers for reproduction of surround channel signals.
