    Abstract: An apparatus for use at a native valve of a heart of a subject comprises a tubular frame (30) circumscribing a longitudinal axis to define a lumen, a valve member (62) disposed within the lumen and coupled to the tubular frame, an outer frame (40), and a pin (50). The outer frame is composed of a shape-memory alloy. The tubular frame and the pin are composed of a material that is not the shape-memory alloy. The outer frame comprises a flange (42), defines an eyelet (44), and is disposed radially outward from the tubular frame. The pin defines a shaft (52) and a head (54), and couples the outer frame to the tubular frame. The head is disposed against the outer frame, radially outward from the eyelet, the shaft extends from the head through the eyelet to the tubular frame, and the shaft is welded to the tubular frame.

    Abstract: A delivery tool includes a nosepiece that is fixed to a shaft, and distal to an implant, and an expandable element proximal to the nosepiece. Maximally-expanded, the expandable element (i) has an expanded external diameter at its widest part that is smaller than the expanded internal diameter of a lumen of the frame of the implant, (ii) tapers proximally away from the widest part and from the nosepiece, and (iii) is dimensioned to slide proximally through the lumen of the implant in its expanded state, between leaflets of the implant, and out of the lumen. When non-expanded, the widest part of the expandable element has a non-expanded external diameter that is smaller than the expanded external diameter of the expandable element. In a compressed state of the implant a portion of the expandable element is disposed within the lumen of the frame. Other applications are also described.

    Abstract: A prosthetic valve delivery system may be provided. The prosthetic valve delivery system may include a first catheter and a first steering mechanism configured to bend the first catheter within a first steering plane. The prosthetic valve delivery system may also include a second catheter coaxially arranged within the first catheter and a second steering mechanism configured to bend the second catheter within a second steering plane, different from the first steering plane. Moreover, the prosthetic valve delivery system may include a capsule positioned distal to both the first catheter and the second catheter. The capsule may be configured to retain a prosthetic valve therein during transvascular advancement of the capsule.

    Abstract: A valve frame includes a tubular portion defining a plurality of valve-frame coupling elements disposed circumferentially around a longitudinal axis of the valve frame, and a plurality of arms, extending radially outward from an upstream portion of the tubular portion to define an arm span, and configured to engage tissue in the atrium. An outer frame is coupled to the valve frame, and includes a ring circumscribing the tubular portion, and a plurality of flanges that extend radially outward from the ring to define a flange span, and are configured to engage ventricular tissue. Each arm defines a rigid portion and a flexible portion that is disposed radially outward from the rigid portion, and is more flexible than the rigid portion. The majority of the flexible portion is disposed further radially outward than the flange span. Other embodiments are also described.

    Abstract: An expandable prosthetic valve for implantation within a native mitral valve may be provided. The prosthetic valve may include an expandable valve body having an atrial end, a ventricular end opposite the atrial end, and an intermediate portion extending between the atrial end and the ventricular end. The valve body may include a plurality of struts intersecting at junctions. The prosthetic valve may also include a plurality of tissue anchoring legs extending from junctions within the intermediate portion of the valve body. At least one of the tissue anchoring legs may have a cross-sectional area which is larger by at least 20% than a cross-sectional area of a strut extending between the at least one tissue anchoring leg and an adjacent tissue anchoring leg.

    Abstract: Prosthetic valves and methods of use of prosthetic valves may be provided. In one implementation, a method of releasing a prosthetic valve from a delivery capsule within a heart may be provided. The delivery capsule may include a distal capsule portion and a proximal capsule portion. The method may include moving the distal capsule portion in a first direction to release ventricular anchoring legs of the prosthetic valve from the delivery capsule and moving the released legs into contact with a native mitral valve. The method may include moving the proximal capsule portion in a second direction to release atrial anchoring arms of the prosthetic valve from the delivery capsule, after contacting the mitral valve with the released legs. The method may include moving the distal capsule portion in the first direction to release an annular valve body of the prosthetic valve from the delivery capsule.
