摘要: Rifling for the barrel of a firearm includes a first gain twist region for increasing the rotational velocity of a bullet as it travels from the breech towards the muzzle end of the barrel, and a second region in which the rifling is of a constant twist so that the bullet exits the muzzle end of the barrel at a constant rotational velocity. The bore defined in the barrel is tapered in a direction from the breech end to the muzzle end so that the diameter of the muzzle opening of the barrel is less than the diameter of the breech opening. The angle of the rifling is variable with the rate of the gain twist of the rifling. The gain twist of the rifling in the barrel is formed by a button, preferably having a sinusoidal shaped periphery, which is pulled through the barrel during the manufacturing process. The smooth periphery of the button prevents shredding of the barrel when the button is twisted at different speeds to provide the variable gain twist of the rifling in different sections of the barrel. In a further aspect of the invention, an apparatus is provided for selectively varying the rotational speed of the button to form the desired gain twist of the rifling during manufacture of the barrel.

摘要: By providing a fluid transfer assembly, two components forming bone cement are maintained separately from each other until actual intermixing thereof for use is desired, with the liquid monomer component being completely dispensed from a sealed unit directly into the mixing vessel in a closed loop manner, without exposure thereof to the user and without breakage of the container holding the liquid monomer, and a unique, multi-component, product handling and delivering system is achieved. In accordance with the present invention, the fluid transfer assembly is constructed for cooperating with the sealed vial or tube containing the liquid monomer and the mixing vessel for completely extracting all of the liquid monomer from the vial/tube in a closed loop operation and directly delivering the liquid monomer into the mixing vessel containing the dry powder. This transfer operation is achieved upon demand by the user, while preventing the liquid monomer from being exposed to the user or to the surrounding area.

摘要: Apparatus, systems and methods are provided for a planetary suit audio system that allows a suited occupant to acoustically interact, using three dimensional surround sound and directional accuracy, with and within the ambient surface environment. This is being developed directly for integration into future versions of a Martian surface suit. The hardware and apparatus incorporates a system that requires a low power suit interface, an intelligent digital signal processing (DSP) sound chip, appropriately integrated and tested sound processing Head-Related Transfer Function (HRTF) algorithms, integrated communications system circuitry, miniaturized electric eternal microphone arrays and speakers, and occupant used internal suit speakers or headsets. It has been found that the pressure at the Martian surface (equivalent to 99,000 feet in altitude on the Earth) supports the appropriate acoustical properties to allow for standard environmental auditory interaction. Exploration of the surface of Mars will require crews to routinely work within the confined spaces of environmental pressure suits during missions lasting as much a 500 days. The use of traditional suits means that operators have to adapt to an internal environment that limits the amount of direct sensory interaction with the external environment. Incorporating external audio capabilities has a major impact of providing the extravehicular activity (EVA) or surface operations crewmember with a second natural means of interacting with, and exploring their environment. This will also make the operating environment more tangible and comfortable for daily operations. Given this apparatus, crews will have the ability to judge actions, environmental conditions, and equipment operations based on auditory inputs, thus promoting increased operational safety and mission success.

摘要: By providing position control means cooperatively associated with a support pad with said control means being constructed for arcuately moving the support pad in response to activation by the user, with the position control means and pad peripherally surrounded by a cover, a unique, portable, self-contained, unitary, movably adjustable support assembly is attained whereby individuals are able to position the support pad in any desired location or on any surface while also being able to automatically raise and/or lower the support pad to any position for comfort and support. In the preferred embodiment, the movably adjustable support assembly is constructed with expandable shroud means integrally connected with the cover in association with the position control means for expanding in response to the arcuate movement of the position control means while being automatically retracted into a folded configuration when the control means are returned to its original position. In addition, the present invention incorporates a single air flow control assembly which is capable of directly controlling two separate and independent movably adjustable support assemblies, each of which employ separate control means. In this way, individuals with queen or king sized beds are able to employ two separate and independent movably adjustable support assemblies on the single bed for separate and independent control, while employing a single air flow control assembly.

摘要: An apparatus for folding and sealing a sheet having a pressure sensitive adhesive positioned thereon is disclosed. The apparatus includes a first roller and a second roller. The second roller has a roller surface, and a plurality of independent sealing protrusions extending from the roller surface. The sealing protrusions are positioned in operative contact with the first roller during advancement of the sheet between the first roller and the second roller. The apparatus yet further includes a third roller. The sealing protrusions of the second roller are positioned in operative contact with the third roller during advancement of the sheet between the second roller and the third roller. The sealing protrusions extend from the roller surface at locations such that advancement of the sheet between the second roller and the third roller causes the sealing protrusions to operatively contact the adhesive.

摘要: A method of enclosing a confidential sheet in an envelope within a document security apparatus includes the step of operating a print engine so as to advance a first enclosure sheet therethrough. The method also includes the step of advancing the first enclosure sheet from an output of the print engine to a first position at a sealing station. The method further includes the step of advancing a second enclosure sheet to a second position at a sealing station. The method moreover includes the step of securing a first portion of the first enclosure sheet to a second portion of the second enclosure sheet at the sealing station so as to create the envelope having an access opening defined therein. The method also includes the step of operating the print engine so as to advance the confidential sheet therethrough. The method still further includes the step of moving the confidential sheet (1) from the output of the print engine, (2) through the access opening, and (3) into the envelope, wherein the securing step is performed prior to the moving step. An apparatus for enclosing a confidential sheet between a first enclosure sheet and a second enclosure sheet is also disclosed.
