    摘要: An air/fuel-ratio detecting apparatus includes a compact layer arranged on the outer surface of a solid electrolyte layer to externally conceal a gas diffusion layer, solid electrolyte layer, outer measuring electrode, and reference electrode to restrain entry of exhaust gas. A gas introduction window is formed in the compact layer to have a predetermined width. The gas introduction window allows entry of exhaust gas toward the gas diffusion layer and the outer measuring electrode in the range of an opening width of the gas introduction window.

    摘要: The invention provides an air-fuel ratio control system in which high precision can be applied to the air-fuel ratio feedback control of an engine by using a gas sensor mainly configured by an oxygen sensor that prevents the deterioration of the holding power of sealing material which enables high density filling with a small compressive load or the deterioration of the sealing material. The gas sensor such as the oxygen sensor is based upon a gas content detecting sensor that includes a gas content detecting element and a holder holding the gas content detecting element and that seals a measuring part of the gas content detecting element in the holder by a sealing part in which the sealing material is compressively filled, and has a characteristic that the sealing material is molded by mixed powder including plural species of forms of particles.

    摘要: An exhaust gas sensor has a sensing element having a sensing area that detects certain components in exhaust gas, a holder that supports a base end portion of the sensing element and has a sensor-mounting structure for sensor installation, and a protector that is fixed to the holder and protects the sensing area of the sensing element. To support the sensing element, a sensing element insertion hole for receiving the base end portion of the sensing element is formed at the holder. Then, a clearance between an inner surface of the sensing element insertion hole and a surface of the sensing area is set to be smaller than a clearance between an inner surface of the protector and the surface of the sensing area.

    摘要: A system for estimating the temperature of an oxygen sensor installed in an exhaust system of an engine comprises a section for sensing a load of the engine; a section for sensing a rotation speed of the engine; and a section which, based on both the engine load and the engine rotation speed, calculates a basic estimated temperature of the oxygen sensor which would appear under a normal condition. A section is employed which senses a speed of the vehicle. A section is employed which, based on the vehicle speed, determines a first correction factor for correcting the basic estimated temperature. A section is employed which senses the temperature of outside air. A section is employed which, based on the outside air temperature, determines a second correction factor for correcting the basic estimated temperature. A target estimated temperature calculating section is employed which, based on the basic estimated temperature and the first and second correction factors, calculates a target estimated temperature of the oxygen sensor and issues an output signal representative of the target estimated temperature. A stopper section is further employed which suppresses the target estimated temperature calculating section from issuing the output signal or calculating the target estimated temperature until a predetermined time passes from a time on which energization of the electric heater starts.

The inspection method contains the steps of reading a first output value of the oxygen sensor under a condition that the sensing portion of the oxygen sensor is subjected to a first inspection gas and then a second output value of the oxygen sensor under a condition that the sensing portion of the oxygen sensor is subjected to a second inspection gas different in oxygen concentration from the first inspection gas and judging the oxygen sensor to be defective or nondefective based on the first and second output values.

    摘要: In a heated type oxygen sensor having a sensing element responding to changes in the exhaust oxygen content and a heater inside, a diagnostic system for diagnosing deterioration of the heated type oxygen sensor comprises an electronic control unit being responsive to an engine temperature for discriminating whether the engine is in a cold-engine state or in a fully warmed-up state. The diagnostic system includes a first warm-up time setting circuit for setting a predetermined oxygen sensor's warm-up time at a first delay time which is preset to be suitable for the cold-engine state, during cold-engine operations, and a second warm-up time setting circuit for setting the predetermined oxygen sensor's warm-up time at a second delay time which is preprogrammed to be suitable for the fully warmed-up state, during fully warmed-up engine operations. The diagnostic system makes a diagnosis on deterioration of the oxygen sensor under a particular condition in which an elapsed time, measured from a time when the heater is turned on, reaches the predetermined oxygen sensor's warm-up time set depending on during cold-engine operation or during fully warmed up engine operation.
