Abstract:
A method of making a filter cartridge, which method includes: (a) providing first and second filter media layers that each contain active particulate that is bonded together and that each comprise a perimeter; (b) stacking the filter media layers in a spaced apart relationship; and (c) securing a roll based housing sidewall to at least a portion of the perimeter of each filter media layer. The resulting filter cartridge is light in weight but has increased volume that provides an improved service life. The cartridge has a very good service life to weight ratio.
Abstract:
Conformal filter cartridges, filtering apparatus using the conformal filter cartridges, and methods of manufacturing the conformal filter cartridges are disclosed. The conformal filter cartridges may include a bed of filter material between a pair of support plates, wherein the major surfaces of the support plates facing the bed of filter material are each curved about at least one axis. The curvature imparted by the support plates provides the conformal configuration to the filter cartridge. The bed of filter material may be loose particulate filter material that may be retained under residual compression between the support plates within the filter cartridge.
Abstract:
An improved respirator filter assembly includes an integral fit seal check mechanism easily controlled by the user. Upon release, the seal check mechanism permits free airflow through the filter assembly. The seal check mechanism includes an air passageway having a sealing rim and a blocking member which is selectively movable between engaged and disengaged positions relative to the sealing rim. A spring element is disposed to releasably maintain the blocking member in the disengaged position during filter assembly operation, wherein a user may actuate the blocking member against the bias of the spring element to move the blocking member into the engaged position to substantially prevent entry of air into the air passageway during seal checking.
Abstract:
A composite filter media (100 includes a meltblown/spunbond composite fiber material and a mixed fiber triboelectric material are preferably attached to each other by needling the mixed fiber material with the meltblown/spunbond composite fiber material. A netting (104) is then attached by preferably needling the mixed fiber triboelectric material and meltblown through the netting (104).

Abstract:
A portable cooling or respiratory blower system of the type carried by a user's body includes a housing having two air flow chambers. An impeller is rotatably disposed between the two air flow chambers and includes a base wall that places the two air flow chambers in non-fluidic communication when the impeller is rotated. A separate plurality of blades is provided on each side of the base wall.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a fan-forced positive pressure breathing apparatus commonly known as a Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) system, and specifically concerns the connecting of the breathing components of such equipment. The invention is a method and apparatus for rapid engagement of PAPR breathing components (such as air supply lines and filter elements to a blower housing). The invention also provides for indicating and/or monitoring whether the relative components have been aligned and coupled in sealed engagement.

Abstract:
The invention disclosed is an improved scrim means for use in a breathing gas filter assembly which includes a pleated web filter medium. The improved scrim means is of a non-woven microorganism resistant synthetic polymeric material of sufficient rigidity to provide substantially continuous support to maintain the pleats of the filter medium in substantially uniformly spaced relationship, to expedite fluid flow in the plane of the web and to minimize nesting of the filter medium.
Abstract:
A filter cartridge 12 that has a first and second layer of filter media 38, 40 that each have first and second major surfaces 32, 44 and a perimeter 46 and that each contain active particulate that is bonded together. A plenum 42 is disposed between the first and second layers of filter media 38, 40 such that the plenum 42 interfaces with the second major surface 44, 44′ of each layer of filter media. A housing sidewall 30 extends from the first layer of filter media 38 to the second layer of filter media 40 and is secured to the perimeter 46 of the first and second layers of filter media. The first major surfaces 32, 32′ of the first and second layers of filter media 38, 40 are each fluid permeable and are each in fluid communication with an exterior gas space. A filter cartridge 12 having such a construction provides a bifurcated flow pattern in a higher volume structure.
