    摘要: A filter for a gas mask has a concave outlet wall and a convex inlet wall with a particulate filter bed that has a uniform depth and conforms substantially to the shape of the inlet and outlet wall. The side wall can have an elliptical, circular or convex shape to conform to the curvature of the wearer's face, or a planar shape. The filter an be a double particulate filter element and a double adsorption filter element configured for axial airflow therethrough with a bifurcated flow pattern. The adsorption filter element comprises a granulated charcoal, a composite material having carbon particles combined with binder particles, or an immobilized bed of charcoal granules and EVA-coated fibers.

    摘要: A self-powered, personally wearable air purifier includes a sequence of packed bed filter media packets having filter media therein of specifically targeted types that will absorb those ambient air pollutants that have been identified as being particularly dangerous to human health. A HEPA filter is included for the removal of particulate matter that will have adhered thereto many of such pollutants. Media types can be selected to meet different environmental circumstances, including normal highway or city center air, or terrorist attacks of chemical, biological or “dirty bomb” types as on a battlefield or similar environments. Shoulder straps and a chest strap are provided for wearing the apparatus on a user's back, or other means such as a shoulder pouch can also be employed. Emergency substitution of filter media using thermal insulation from the clothing of the user is available upon depletion of the normal media material.

    摘要: We claim an improved cartridge, typically in cylindrical or panel form that can be used in a dry or wet/dry vacuum cleaner. The cartridge is cleanable using a stream of service water, or by rapping on a solid object, or by using a compressed gas stream, but can provide exceptional filtering properties even for submicron particulate in the household or industrial environment. The cartridge has a combination of nanofiber filtration layer on a substrate. The nanofiber and substrate are engineered to obtain a maximum efficiency at reasonable pressure drop and permeability. The improved cartridge constitutes at least a substrate material and at least a layer comprising a non-woven, fine fiber separation layer. The nanofiber layer has a fiber diameter of about 0.05 to 0.5 micron, a nanofiber layer basis weight of about 3null10null7 to 6null10null5 gram-cmnull2, an air permeability of about 1 to 1000 ft/min at 0.5 inch (water) nullP, and a pore size of about 0.01 to 100 microns. The substrate layer is preferably pleated, comprising a basis weight of about 0.2 oz-ydnull2 to 350 lb-3000 ftnull2, a thickness of about 0.001 to 0.2 inches, the overall filter having a permeability of about 1 to 200 ft-minnull1 of 0.5 inch (water) nullP, an efficiency in removing a 0.76 micron particle at 10 ft-minnull1 of about 10 to 99.99995%. The cartridge is configured to permit an air flow rate from about 5 to 600 cubic feet per minute. The nanofiber and substrate material are selected such that the cartridge can simply be rinsed in a service water stream, rapped on a solid object, or blown off with compressed gas to remove accumulated dust cake or particulate load.

    摘要: A method for manufacturing a gas mask canister using a HEPA filter media having plastic separating plates inserted into between HEPA filter media at certain intervals. The HEPA filter, impregnated activated carbon, and a pre-filter are accommodated within a cylinder. The cylinder is inserted into a canister having an upper portion and a lower portion detachably coupled together. The impregnated activated carbon, the plastic separating plates and the casing of the canister can be reused, and the rest of elements are burned. A vinyl coating sheet is peeled off from the canister after each use. An indexing tab for recording the number of times of peeling is attached on each of vinyl coated sheets, so that the number of uses can be known.

    摘要: A combination respiratory filter and sampling device has been developed which collects airborne contaminants for respiratory exposure measurements. The devices, which fit existing commercial half-mask respirators, are generally smaller and lighter in weight than existing filters, and have low resistance to airflow, so they can be comfortably worn by people performing their normal work duties. Each device consists of at least a front, a middle and a back section which can be independently separated and analyzed by traditional laboratory techniques. The filtering and sampling media thicknesses and types can be adapted to target specific compounds.
