摘要:
Compounds and methods of using these compounds to treat neurodegenerative diseases, especially Alzheimer's disease, are provided. The compounds that are provided for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases can be represented by a general formula (I): wherein R1 is Me, Et or PhCH2; R2 is H, PhCH2 or 6-Me-3-Py-(CH2)2; and R3 is H, Me or Br. The solid line accompanied by the dotted line i.e. represents a single or double bond and salts thereof with pharmacologically acceptable acids and quaternary derivatives.

A dry strength additive composition generally includes an anionic and/or amphoteric polyacrylamide having a molecular weight of less than 1,000,000 Daltons, wherein the amphoteric polyacrylamide has a net negative charge; a cationic and/or amphoteric starch; and a cationic non-starch polymer having a charge density greater than 1 milliequivalent per gram (meq/g) at a pH of 3. The components defining the composition can be added to a pulp suspension sequentially or as a pre-blended mixture.

A large mode area optical fiber includes a large diameter core (d1 up to 60 μm), and a first cladding (diameter d2) wherein the difference between refractive index (n1) in the core and the first cladding (n2) is very small (Δn 0.4) (n3 is preferably less than 1.3). The small change in refractive index between the core and inner cladding combined with a large change in refractive index between the first cladding and second cladding provides a significantly improved single mode holding waveguide.

The present invention provides a pharmacological agent based on derivatives of hydrogenated pyrido (4,3-b) indoles and uses thereof. Specifically, the invention provides a geroprotector in the series of hydrogenated pyrido (4,3-b) indoles (several derivatives), which can be used for slowing aging, prolonging lifespan of an individual or cells in an individual, and/or improving quality of life of an individual developing or having a risk of developing age-associated manifestations and/or pathologies.

A degrading agent composition for use in manufacturing a tissue product generally includes a degrading agent, a degradation inhibiting carrier, and a non-ionic surfactant. The non-ionic surfactant stabilizes the viscosity of the composition as a function of time. The degrading agent composition can be used in combination with a temporary wet strength agent to produce a tissue product exhibiting high initial wet tensile strength and desirable decay properties. Processes for forming the tissue product and pumpable fluids containing the degrading agent composition are also disclosed.

A twin fiber laser arrangement is configured with active and passive fibers supporting respective signal and pump lights and a reflective coating surrounding the fibers along a section of the arrangement. The passive fiber has regions covered by respective protective layer and coating-free regions alternating with the layer covered regions, wherein the reflective coating is configured to overlap the protective layer which shields the end of the reflective coating from high power pump light.
