Abstract: The disclosure provides a system, a method, and a computer program product for detecting active road work zones. The system obtains first sensor data associated with a detection of a road work zone, using a first sensor type and obtains second sensor data associated with presence of at least one individual in the road work zone, using a second sensor type. Further, the system determines a confidence level associated with the detection of the road work zone based on fusing of the first sensor data and the second sensor data. The system classifies the detected road work zone as at least one of the active road work zone or a non-active road work zone, based on the confidence level. The system updates map data associated with a map of a region based on the classification.

Abstract: An approach is provided for providing a recommended route and departure time combination based on real-time estimated times of arrival (ETAs). The approach, for example, involves determining a plurality of candidate routes between an origin and at least one destination. The approach also involves retrieving real-time information, historical information, predicted information, or a combination thereof associated with the origin, the destination, the plurality of candidate routes, or a combination thereof. The approach further involves calculating respective cost values (e.g., ETAs) for traveling for the plurality of candidate routes at a plurality of different departure times. The respective cost values are based on the real-time information, the historical information, the predicted information, or a combination thereof. The approach further involves determining a recommended route and departure time combination based on the respective cost values. The approach further involves providing the recommended route and departure time combination as an output.

At least one traffic signal is associated with a respective intersection. The method also includes identifying a first switching condition and communicating with a second network, different than the first network, in order to receive the information regarding the one or more traffic signals and the information regarding the one or more intersections following identification of the first switching condition.
