Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for adaptive display of information and interaction components on a display device of an aircraft. The method includes: receiving aircraft data from one or more aircraft components; determining context information from the aircraft data; determining a visual situation awareness indicator based on the context information; determining a situational awareness model based on the context information; determining a primary objective based on the situational awareness model; determining a task list based on the primary objective; determining situational awareness information based on a task of the task list; determining interactive components based on the task of the task list; and displaying the context information, the visual situation awareness indicator, the task list, the interactive components, and the situational awareness information on a user interface.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for employing an intelligent stencil mask to interact with a touch screen interface and thereby reduce the probability of accidental control function activation. A touch screen interface onboard an aircraft is coupled to a processor and is configured to generate a first virtual mask having a first region and a second region. A user interaction is then detected with one of the first region and the second region. A first reconfigured virtual mask is generated if the user interacted with the second region. However, an aircraft control function is activated if the user interacted with the first region.
Abstract:
A system and method for operating an aircraft in response to input gestures is provided. The method is comprised of generating a valid interaction volume substantially surrounding a user's hand, based on the location of the user's arm and hand relative to a pilot support apparatus, recognizing when a gesture performed within the valid interaction volume indicates a valid input, and generating an associated system command.
Abstract:
A virtual keyboard for display on an avionics touch screen display comprises a first cluster of alphabetically sequential keys and a second cluster including alphabetically sequential keys, the second cluster separated from the first cluster. The virtual keyboard further comprises at least one visual marker between the first and second clusters.
Abstract:
A vehicle decision support system and method capable of processing operational constraints, a flight plan, and appropriate environmental data to generate timely and readily comprehensible guidance are provided.
Abstract:
Cockpit display systems and methods for generating navigation displays including landing diversion symbology are provided. In one embodiment, the cockpit display system includes a cockpit monitor and a controller coupled to the cockpit monitor. The controller is configured to assess the current feasibility of landing at one or more diversion airports in a range of an aircraft on which the cockpit display system is deployed. The controller is further configured to assign each diversion airport to one of a plurality of predetermined landing feasibility categories, and generate a horizontal navigation display on the cockpit monitor including symbology representative of the feasibility category assigned to one or more of the diversion airports.
Abstract:
A method and system for increasing pilot awareness in an aircraft during non-normal flight situations is provided. A non-normal flight situation is detected, and a critical flight parameter and its associated condition for monitoring based on the non-normal situation is determined. An envelope surrounding the aircraft is generated that is consistent with the non-normal situation, and the critical flight parameter is monitored based on the non-normal situation.
Abstract:
A system and method provides situation awareness for a pilot to appropriately configure the aircraft as well as intercept the flight management system computed vertical profile in order to reduce fuel consumption, emission and better manage aircraft energy for safer operations. Markers are displayed on a vertical situation display suggesting a profile that the pilot may select involving aircraft configuration and actual flown trajectory versus the computed vertical profile, especially when aircraft is off the computed vertical profile.
Abstract:
A flight deck communication system comprises a speech engine for receiving a pilot's speech input and an aural annunciation manager. A smart pilot is coupled to the speech engine and to the aural annunciation manager and configured to (a) generate new aural message annunciation requests, (b) determine if the pilot is engaged in an active speech input task, (c) deferring annunciation if the message is not a high priority message, (d) annunciate the deferred message when the active speech input task is completed, (e) annunciate the received message substantially immediately if the message is a high priority message, and (f) store the progress of the active task.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for employing a hover gesture controller to reduce inadvertent interactions with a touch screen. The hover gesture controller recognizes the user's interaction intentionality before physical contact is made with the touch screen. This reduces inadvertent user interactions and offloads a portion of computation cost involved in post touch intentionality reorganization. The hover gesture controller utilizes a touch screen interface onboard an aircraft coupled to a processor and configured to (a) detect a weighted hover interaction; and (b) compare the weighted hover interaction to a threshold value to determine if a subsequent touch is acceptable.
