Abstract: A vibration damping assembly for use with a second shaft nested within an interior of a first shaft is provided including a collar rotatable with the first shaft, and a cage rotatable with the second shaft and having at least one window formed therein. The collar and the cage are mounted concentrically. At least one damping mechanism is positioned within the at least one window. The at least one damping mechanism includes at least one flyweight and at least one support wedge. The at least one flyweight movable relative to the cage to frictionally engage an adjacent surface of the collar.

Abstract: A shaft system includes an outer shaft including an inner surface defining a conduit and an inner shaft extending within the conduit. The inner shaft includes a radially extending passage having a first end and a second end. A centrifugal force activated damper extends between the outer shaft and the inner shaft. The centrifugal force activated damper includes a first member arranged between the inner shaft and the inner surface at the first end of the radially extending passage, a second member arranged between the inner shaft and the inner surface at the second end of the radially extending passage, and a connecting member extending through the radially extending passage. Rotation of the shaft system causes the first member and the connecting member to shift away from the second member into the inner surface of the outer shaft.

Abstract: A system includes a permanent magnet generator (PMG) with a generator shaft defining a longitudinal axis. A brake system includes a brake shaft with a first end operatively connected to the generator shaft for selectively rotating with the generator shaft or braking to slow the generator shaft. A shear shaft is operatively connected to a second end of the brake shaft axially opposite the first end along the longitudinal axis. The brake system includes a press fit sleeve engaged about the brake shaft and an actuator. The actuator is operatively connected to actuate a pawl between a first position spaced apart from the press fit sleeve for normal operation of the PMG, and a second position engaged with the press fit sleeve to apply braking forces to the press fit sleeve and to the generator shaft.

Abstract: A clutch assembly includes a clutch pack, and a rotating control piston selectably engageable with the clutch pack via movement of the clutch piston along an axis of rotation of the control piston. The clutch piston includes a piston member engageable with the clutch pack, a cover plate installed into the piston member to define an enclosed volume, and an axially fixed chamber divider positioned in the enclosed volume to divide the enclosed volume into a control pressure chamber and a pressure balancing chamber. Both the control pressure chamber and the pressure balancing chamber are filled with hydraulic fluid, and the control piston is moved between a disengaged position and an engaged position via modulation of hydraulic pressure in the control pressure chamber.
