Abstract: A heat exchanger includes a pair of opposed, spaced apart heat exchanger plates defining a heat exchanger volume therebetween having an inlet and opposed outlet. A plurality of heat exchanger ribs are included within the heat exchanger volume. Each rib defines a rib body spanning the heat exchanger volume. Each rib body includes a plurality of slits therethrough to define a flow path through the heat exchanger ribs from the inlet to the outlet of the heat exchanger volume. The ribs and slits can be formed using ultrasonic additive manufacturing (UAM), for example.

Abstract: A variable speed, constant frequency (VSCF) generator system is provided and includes a generator portion, a first cooling circuit and a second cooling circuit. The generator portion includes a generator, electronics configured to control operations of the generator and a housing to house the generator and the electronics. The first cooling circuit is provided such that first fluid exiting the generator passes through a first cooling element prior to returning to the generator. The second cooling circuit is provided such that second fluid exiting the electronics passes through a second cooling element prior to being pumped back toward the electronics.

A method of manufacturing an inductor includes mounting a plurality of electrically conductive heat pipes to a printed wiring board (PWB), wherein the PWB includes electrically conductive traces to connect the plurality of electrically-conductive heat pipes to form an inductor winding.

Abstract: An electrical machine includes a winding core with a plurality of end slots. A winding is seated in the end slots with end windings where the winding crosses from end slot to end slot. A slot insulator is seated in two of the end slots. The slot insulator includes a first slot liner seated in a first one of the two end slots with a winding slot defined therethrough in an axial direction. A second slot liner is seated in a second one of the two end slots with a winding slot defined therethrough in the axial direction, wherein the second slot liner is spaced apart in a lateral direction relative to the axial direction from the first slot liner by a gap. The slot insulator includes a span portion bridging across the gap to connect the first and second slot liners.

Abstract: A module has a first layer with a plurality of transistors mounted thereon. Circuit traces are configured to communicate current between the transistors outwardly of the module. A second layer is in operable communication with the first layer. A third layer is in operable communication with the second layer. A baseplate is in grounded communication with the third layer. A plurality of ribs are positioned between the third layer and the baseplate. The module is configured to allow fluid to flow between the third layer and the baseplate and around the plurality of ribs. A motor drive and a method are also disclosed.
