The card connector includes a frame that receives the information card, and an identifier detecting means for detecting a sliding position of the identifier. The identifier detecting means includes a suitably placed fixed contact member and a movable contact member which are mounted on the frame, with part of the movable contact member forming a projection for detecting the sliding position of the identifier, whereby the projection lies in an area within the housing space through which the step-like recess of the card is to pass. As the information card is inserted into the housing space, the projection touches an upper surface of the step-like recess and/or that of the identifier and works in the concave cut in the step.

In an IC card connector device capable of holding a push rod at a push position while an IC card is connected, a heart-shaped cam groove 10 capable of holding a push rod 4 at two positions (a push position and a projecting position) in association with a transmission pin 12 is formed on the outside surface of a frame 3 having a guide groove 3a for inserting and withdrawing an IC card 1 which is formed on the inside surface thereof and a lock lever 16 is held to a knob 4a at the extreme end of the push rod 4 to thereby lock the push rod 4 at the push position by the lock lever 16 while the IC card 1 is connected. When the IC card 1 is to be discharged, the lock of the push rod 4 is released by actuating the lock lever 16 and thereafter the knob 4a is pressed to thereby move the push rod 4 from the push position to the projecting position. Then, an eject arm 5 is turned by pressing a drive plate 15 by the transmission pin 12 in the process that the push rod 4 is moved again from the projecting position to the push position to thereby discharge the IC card 1. With this arrangement, the discharge of the IC card against the operator's intention which has connected can be prohibited and the size of an eject mechanism can be reduced.

Disclosed is an IC card connector in which the amount the IC card is discharged can be increased even if the operating force applied to the push rod is reduced. A first support shaft 15 and a second support shaft 16 protrude from a pin housing 10 which is provided with a large number of pin contacts, and an eject lever 13 is rotatably supported by the first support shaft 15. A push rod 12 is supported so as to be capable of reciprocating by a frame 11 which is formed into an integral unit with the pin housing 10, and the forward end of the push rod 12 is engaged with the eject lever 13. A drive lever 14 having a claw portion 14b for pushing out the IC card 1 is rotatably supported by the second support shaft 16. Formed on this drive lever 14 are a first engagement member 14c which is farther from the second support shaft 16 and a second engagement member 14d which is nearer to the second support shaft 16, these engagement portions 14c and 14d protruding into joint holes 13c and 13d formed in the eject lever 13. When the eject lever 13 rotates upon the depressing of the push rod 12, power is transmitted to the drive lever 14 through the first engagement member 14c in the initial stage of the rotation, and, halfway through the rotation, the power transmitting section for rotating the lever 14 is changed from the first engagement member 14c to the second engagement member 14d.

A connector device in which a push rod can be locked in a predetermined approach position when an IC card is connected. The structure of an ejection mechanism is simplified, and the number of parts is reduced and assembling operability is improved. The push rod is held so as to reciprocate movably outside of a frame to guide insertion/removal of the IC card. The push rod is constantly biased by a partial force of the tension of a coil spring in an IC-card ejection direction, and a transmission pin attached to the push rod is constantly biased by a partial force of the tension of the coil spring toward an outer side surface of the frame. A heart-shaped cam groove engaged with an operation member of a transmission pin is provided in the outer side surface of the frame. When the IC card is inserted, the operation member is held in the cam groove, and the push rod is locked in the predetermined approach position. When the push rod, lock-released and projected, is pushed to the approach position, the transmission pin drives a driving plate entering the cam groove, to eject the IC card via an eject arm.
