The present invention provides a metallocene compound which produces an olefin polymer having a high molecular weight with a high stereoregularity. The metallocene compound has the following formula (1): Q(C5H4-mR1m)(C5H4-nR2n)MXY (1) wherein (C5H4-mR1m) and (C5H4-nR2n) each independently represent a cyclopentadienyl group; C5H4-m and C5H4-n each independently represent a cyclopentadienyl ring; m represents an integer of 1-3; n represents an integer of 2 or 3; R1 and R2 are each independently a substituent bonded respectively to C5H4-m and C5H4-n, and represent a hydrocarbon group of 1-20 carbon atoms, a silicon-containing hydrocarbon group of 1-20 carbon atoms or a heteroaromatic group; each R1m and each R2n may be the same or different; one pair of R2's in the R2n are bonded to each other to form at least one ring; Q represents a divalent group for cross-linking (C5H4-mR1m) and (C5H4-nR2n); M represents a titanium atom, a zirconium atom or a hafnium atom; and X and Y are the same or different and each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a hydrocarbon group.

An elastomeric polypropylene wherein (a) an isotactic pentad (I5) is 0.150-0.749, (b) a different bond due to a 2,1-insertion reaction is 0.11-20 mol %, (c) a different bond due to a 1,3-insertion reaction is 0-10 mol % and (d) a melting point (Tm) is 50-160° C., (a) to (c) being determined from 13C NMR spectra, which is obtainable by the polymerization of propylene using any one of a metallocene catalyst (I) comprising a metallocene compound (A), an activating compound (B) and if desired, an organoaluminum compound (C), a supported metallocene catalyst (II) prepared by supporting the metallocene catalyst (I) on a finely particulate support (D), and a supported metallocene catalyst (III) prepared by adding an organoaluminum compound (E) to the supported metallocene catalyst (II). In particular, it has excellent transparency and elastic characteristics.

A polypropylene composition comprising 20 to 95% by weight of a stereoregular polypropylene characterized by the specified physical properties determined from .sup.13 C NMR spectra and 5 to 80% by weight of an .alpha.-olefin copolymer comprising 10 to 90% by weight of an .alpha.-olefin and 10 to 90% by weight of at least one of other .alpha.-olefins. The polypropylene composition demonstrates good balance of rigidity and impact resistance, high heat resistance and high toughness, when used as molding materials.

Disclosed is a novel transition metal compound which is used for forming a metallocene catalyst for olefin polymerization. Specifically disclosed is a novel transition metal compound represented by the general formula below which enables to form a metallocene catalyst that has a balanced reactivity with ethylene and a comonomer selected from α-olefins having 3-20 carbon atoms and enables to produce an α-olefin polymer having a high molecular weight. Also specifically disclosed are a catalyst for olefin polymerization containing such a transition metal compound, and a method for producing a propylene/ethylene-α-olefin block copolymer wherein such a catalyst is used.

The present invention provides metallocene compounds which exhibit high polymerization activity for production of highly stereoregular polymers, as well as a production process for olefin polymers which employs olefin polymerization catalysts containing the compounds, and olefin polymers obtained by the production process.
