Abstract: A fiber-optic switching system is provided which includes an optical fiber switch having first and second optical fiber portions and an electrically-controlled actuator. The first and second optical fiber portions are spaced apart with a gap between the portions that is sized to allow for light signal coupling between the optical fiber portions in a signal-passing state of the switch. The electrically-controlled actuator is coupled to transition the switch between the signal-passing state, where the light signal is allowed to pass between the optical fiber portions, and a signal-non-passing state, where the light signal is prevented from passing between the optical fiber portions. The electrically-controlled actuator includes an electroactive material exhibiting a physical change with change in an applied electrical field, where the physical change facilitates transitioning the optical fiber switch between the signal-passing and the signal-non-passing states.

Abstract: A method may include forming a plurality of multilayer cores wherein each multilayer core comprises a sheet of cured dielectric material having a layer of metal on each side of the sheet of cured dielectric material, patterning each layer of metal in the plurality of multilayer cores to form wiring traces in each layer of metal, embedding a solder element in at least one sheet of a plurality of sheets of uncured dielectric material, wherein the solder element having a melting point temperature within a temperature range of a curing temperature of the uncured dielectric material, forming a printed circuit board by alternately stacking the plurality of multilayer cores with the plurality of sheets of uncured dielectric material between each multilayer core, laminating the stack of multilayer cores and sheets of uncured dielectric material to cause curing of the sheets of uncured dielectric material and melting of the solder element.

Abstract: A system to protect signal integrity includes a circuit board having a secure portion and a non-secure portion. The secure portion includes a protected circuit operable for storing security relevant data, and a secure portion power-supply element. The non-secure portion includes an unprotected circuit and a non-secure portion power-supply element corresponding to the secure portion power-supply element. The secure portion and the non-secure portion element are separated by an isolation gap. A coupling element bridges the isolation gap between the secure portion and the non-secure portion. The coupling element is electrically connected to the secure portion power-supply element within the secure portion and electrically connected to the non-secure portion power-supply portion.

The hand-held mobile device uses the connector identifying information to ascertain guidance for where to properly plug the cable connector in the network, and based on ascertaining the guidance, an action is performed to assist in properly plugging the cable connector in the network.

Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products are provided for assisting use of a cable by locating connector ends of the cable. The process includes obtaining saved cable identifying information received, or saved, from a tag circuit associated with a connector end of a cable of a plurality of connector ends of multiple cables, and comparing the saved cable identifying information with cable identifying information of an other tag circuit associated with an other connector end of the plurality of connector ends. Based on the comparing identifying a cable match, the cable match is indicated via an indicator associated with the other connector end, thereby identifying the other connector end as part of the cable to facilitate use of the cable.

In an aspect, a method of using the apparatus includes preloading the cable assembly into the carriage, inserting the cassette into the booklet assembly, and configuring the carriage such that the cable assembly is inserted into the cable connector and retained in an inserted position by the carriage.

Abstract: A displacement sensor that includes a stationary printed circuit board which includes a first capacitor pad, an indicator, and a battery electrically communicating with the first capacitor pad and the indicator and a sliding card which includes a second capacitor pad, the first capacitor pad and the second capacitor pad being orientated to face each other and in an overlapping relation to each other. An overlap being defined by the first capacitor pad and the second capacitor pad, wherein the overlap of the first capacitor pad and the second capacitor pad generates a capacitance, the generated capacitance changes as the sliding card moves as a result of a change in the overlap of the first capacitor pad and the second capacitor pad. The indicator is activated when the generated capacitance change reaches a threshold value.
