摘要: Indicia such as tax stamps are applied to objects such as cigarette packs by driving a heated ram against the back of an indicia supply tape to cause the indicium to transfer from the tape to the object. If the object is contained in outer packaging such as cigarette carton packaging, that outer packaging is opened prior to applying the indicia to the objects. Then the outer packaging is reclosed. The indicia supply tapes are contained in cartridges which are easily removed for reloading and storage in a secure place. The cartridges are mounted on heads in the machine which are movable to facilitate applying indicia with various spacings and in various arrangements.

摘要: A system and method is provided for incentivizing players to visit a gambling location. In one aspect, a qualified person is invited to play an electronic game which has a plurality of outcomes, at least one of which is a winning outcome. In one embodiment, the qualified person may be required to redeem the outcome at the gambling location. In another embodiment, the person may be required to redeem the outcome at a redemption location. In another aspect, a method is provided for permitting a person to take one or more actions within a gambling location and in response inviting the person to play an electronic game separate from the games offered in a gambling environment at the gambling location, where the game has a plurality of outcomes, at least one of which is a winning outcome, and if the person obtains a winning outcome, requiring the person to redeem the at least one outcome at the gambling location. In one embodiment, the method includes the acts of qualifying a person. Qualification may require specific acts, for example, referring another person, and/or providing an invitation to play an electronic game to another person. Various systems and method assist in tracking and maintaining such referrals. Additionally group gaming in and amongst referrals and/or designated groups may be performed, and in some embodiment required for qualification and/or redemption. Further, another aspect relates to providing special incentives, for example for referral of a new player, for providing casino affiliation or membership information, among others.

摘要: According to one aspect, provided are systems and methods for generating unrestricted games (e.g. promotional games) that preserve predetermination and/or do not introduce chance elements into the games while at the same time reduce the overhead associated with generating and maintaining entries (i.e. tickets) into the games. As part of systems and methods for creating ticketed entries, values can be assigned to any of one or more of players, game machines, or games. These values can used as unique identifiers. Additionally, information already associated with any one or more of the players, game machines, or games can also be used to generate these values. The values can have static components and can be combined with dynamic components, that can be used individually, separately, or in combination. In one example a predetermined numeric value is used, stored as part of a record. In another, static information can be used to generate the numeric value, or a component of the value. Once the value, in some examples a seed, is obtained the value is used with a deterministic function to provide deterministically an output. The output permits retrieval of an outcome from for example a prize matrix of predetermined game outcomes. According to another aspect, the systems and methods provided permit deterministic ticket generation without having to generate and/or maintain the entries for any game.

摘要: An elongate flexible core 1 especially suitable for use in an optical cable to be employed as an aerial cable has in its outer circumferential surface circumferentially spaced, longitudinally extending grooves 3 in which optical fibres 34 will be loosely housed and comprises extruded plastics material and a multiplicity of longitudinally stressed elongate flexible non-metallic reinforcing element each substantially encapsulated in the extruded plastics material, the multiplicity of non-metallic reinforcing elements being substantially evenly distributed throughout the cross-sectional area of the core. The non-metallic reinforcing elements preferably extend helically around the axis of the core a long length of lay and preferably constitute 60 to 70% by volume of the extruded plastics material. The non-metallic reinforcing elements are preferably made of an aromatic polyamide and the plastics material may be a thermoplastics material, a thermosetting material or a thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer. The core 1 may be a single elongate flexible body or it may comprise a plurality of elongate flexible bodies extending helically around the axis of the core.

摘要: An optical fibre ribbon structure suitable for use in an optical cable or other application where there is a risk that optical fibres will be subjected to a tensile force comprises a plurality of optical fibres and flexible reinforcing elements of resilient material arranged side by side and embedded in an elongate plastics body. Each resilient reinforcing element is set in such a form that the ribbon structure follows a path of smoothly curved undulations whose axes of curvature lie parallel to one another and normal to the longitudinal axis of the ribbon structure. When the undulting ribbon stucture is subjected to a tensile force, the ribbon structure straightens in a lengthwise direction against the action of the resilient reinforcing elements thereby reducing the tensile force otherwise applied to the optical fibres. When the tensile force is removed, the ribbon structure returns towards its original undulating form.

摘要: In effecting a joint between two optical fibres an elongate gauge having a cross-sectional shape and size corresponding to that of each of the optical fibres to be jointed is laid on a substantially flat surface of a soft, substantially non-resilient metallic body, e.g. annealed copper, and is pressed into the surface to form in, and between two edges of, the surface a groove of a substantially complementary cross-sectional size. The gauge is removed and the two optical fibres are aligned in the groove so formed in such a way that neighboring ends of the optical fibres substantially abut. A second body having a flat surface is applied to the grooved surface in such a way that its flat surface is in interfacial contact with the grooved surface, and the two bodies are secured together.
