摘要： An bolus delivery system includes an implantable pump, a sensor for sensing an adverse patient condition, such as atrial fibrillation, and a catheter for delivery of a bolus of drug to a target area of a living body. The pump is provided with a bolus metering assembly which includes, in a preferred embodiment, an auxiliary bellows defining a bolus reservoir in addition to the main reservoir of the pump. The auxiliary bellows is selectively placed in fluid communication with the pressurized main supply of drug via an inlet valve to refill the bolus reservoir. An outlet valve is provided to permit egress of the bolus to the catheter from the bolus reservoir. A drive train including a stepper motor and a face cam selectively opens and closes the inlet and outlet valves to effect accumulation or metering and delivery of the bolus. The auxiliary bellows is preferably provided as a collapsible element resiliently biased to an expanded position and is collapsed under pressure in the main reservoir to expel the bolus.

The openings of the frame are covered with a thin metallic foil that is welded to the frame to provide a hermetic seal. Non-conductive members may be placed in or about the openings to provide a backing or structural support for the metallic foil. 摘要： In general, the disclosure is directed toward releasing material within a medical device via an optical feedthrough. A system for releasing material with a medical device comprises a cup that holds a material, wherein the cup includes a discharge port, a seal disc that seals the material within the cup, an optical feedthrough assembly coupled to the cup, a shell that defines a chamber within a medical device, wherein the optical feedthrough assembly is coupled to the shell, and a radiant energy source that shines a beam through the optical feedthrough assembly to puncture the seal disc to allow the material to enter the chamber via the discharge port.

摘要： A peristaltic pumping mechanism is provided with a non-permeable peristaltic circuit comprising two strips of thin metal laser bonded at their edges to form a tube. In one embodiment, the non-permeable tubing takes the form of a continuous loop having input and output ports. In another embodiment, the tubing is open and generally U-shaped. In still another embodiment, a dual-tube circuit is provided, wherein a central, metal tube is disposed within an outer elastomeric tube having an inner diameter larger than the outer dimension of the metal tube. The elastomeric tube supports the metal tube only at the ends of the circuit, enabling the metal tube to “float” within the elastomeric tube.

摘要： A peristaltic pump which may be used as an implantable medical device includes a rotor arm that is provided with a means for applying a regulated occluding force to the pump rollers. In a preferred embodiment, an expandable chamber containing a pressurized material may be incorporated into the pump. In this manner the pressure within the expandable chamber and thus the force applied to the pump roller may be kept constant despite local variations in the dimensions of the components and associated variations in the volume of the expandable chamber. Alternatively, the pressure within the expandable chamber may be modulated by the pressure of a reservoir communicating with the pump inlet or modulated by pump operating parameters such as motor torque.
