    Abstract: In a flat road surface obstacle having a very thin profile and comprised of a malleable structure such as silicone rubber. The obstacle may be combined with a portion of adhesive to attach the obstacle to a play structure surface to be used in combination with wheeled conveyances such as skateboards, roller skates, in-line skates, tricycles and the like. The obstacle may further be used in combination with a skate park structure to provide markers and/or obstacles to be used in game play or instruction.

    Abstract: A gauge for measuring an out-of-plane surface displacement profile around a cold-worked fastener hole in relation to the distribution of residual compressive stresses around the hole and related fatigue life. The gauge has a deformable strain sensor positionable to be deformed in accord with the out-of-plane surface of the structural material circumferentially surrounding the cold-worked hole. A measurement reporting readout device is in communication with the strain sensor and relates three-dimensional surface-profile measurement data in accord with strain sensor deformation to determine or verify the cold expansion magnitude, uniformity and consequent fatigue life through three-dimensional elastoplastic finite element comparative analyses and/or experimental measurements for a hole in any material of given thickness.

    Abstract: A system and method has one or more store and forward facilities, (SAFF) each associated with a plurality of subscriber facsimile machines. The SAFF include a computer for controlling operations and mass data storage equipment. A subscriber to the system delivers an outgoing facsimile message to the SAFF with which it is associated, which records the fax message, together with data as to originating facsimile machine and destination facsimile machine. The SAFF then delivers the facsimile message to the intended receiver facsimile machine, either directly or through another SAFF. If unsuccessful on an initial attempt, the SAFF periodically retries to send the facsimile message. The system also provides spooling of all facsimile messages for an intended receiver machine, which are all spooled upon connection with the receiver machine. Subscriber mailboxes are provided as part of the mass storage, which can be accessed by a subscriber to have his messages delivered to any facsimile machine he designates. Secure facsimile transmission is achieved through use of subscriber PIN numbers. Broadcasting redirecting messages and cost accounting can also be achieved by the system and method. After receipt of a message by the subscriber, the system may provide an immediate-reply service, allowing the recipient to immediately send out a message selected from a reply service menu. The system can also be used in cooperation with a paperless facsimile machine which directly displays the facsimile message on a screen and is capable of entering outgoing facsimile messages to the SAFF. The system can convert the received fax message into voice mail message and direct the converted voice message to a voice mailbox as instructed by the message sender or recipient.

    Abstract: Diffusion bonding of surface layers of an alloy, such as an aluminum alloy, having surface oxides of low solubility in the alloy includes treating the surface layers to be bonded to remove existing surface oxide coatings, and diffusion bonding the surface layers to one another by placing the alloy to be bonded under sufficient pressure to cause disruption of the oxide coatings by localized surface deformation of the alloy, enhanced by a superplastic microstructure, without substantial deformation of the alloy, i.e., macroscopic deformation approaching zero percent, while heating the alloy in a non-oxidizing atmosphere for a time sufficient for diffusion bonding to occur. The alloy may be treated so that at least the surface layers thereof have a fine grain structure of the type associated with superplastic forming properties. Components may be formed by diffusion bonding and superplastic forming.
