    Abstract: A base-functional graft polymer-containing resinous reaction product is made by incorporating an amine in a graft polymer molecule. An epoxy resin is reacted with ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of a free radical initiator having hydrogen abstraction capability, to form a graft polymer resinous reaction product. The monomer may comprise a copolymerizable unsaturated amine or an unsaturated epoxide that, after the addition polymerization - grafting reaction, is reacted with a primary or secondary amine. Upon the addition of an ionizing agent and water, an aqueous dispersion or solution can be established.The resinous reaction products are useful in the formulation of coating compositions, and particularly, coating compositions useful for cathodic electrocoating.

    Abstract: Room temperature curable latices can be produced by copolymerizing ketimine derivative ethylenically unsaturated monomers with conventional ethylenically unsaturated monomers in an emulsion process at a controlled pH greater than about 7.2 to produce a coagulum-free latex containing blocked amine (--NH.sub.2) groups. In use, the pH of the latex can be adjusted to acidic below 7 to generate unblocked reactive amino groups which can be cured or cross-linked at about room temperature with water-dispersed polymers such as epoxy, double bond or isothiocyanate containing polymers.

    Abstract: An epoxy-acrylic graft copolymer useful as a paint film is prepared by the in-situ copolymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers including between 1% and 25% by weight of alkylated alkylol acrylamide monomer in the presence of at least 3% by weight of peroxide initiator in the absence of water. The unsaturated monomer chains are grafted by carbon-to-carbon grafts to the epoxy resin backbone. The resulting epoxy-acrylic graft copolymer is dispersed into water by adding amine, and is blended with from 1 to 40 parts by weight of aminoplast per 100 parts by weight of copolymer.

    Abstract: Provides new and improved water-reducible coating compositions and methods of making them. Three preferred processes are disclosed.
