A cured mortar made from the mortar composition is also disclosed with advantageous compressive strength properties.

Abstract: A method of making a structural lightweight and thermal insulating concrete is described. The concrete has a coarse aggregate partly replaced by recycled plastic pieces. This enables the concrete to maintain a high compressive strength, low thermal conductivity, and low weight, while providing a use for waste plastic. The waste plastic pieces may comprise polyethylene in the form of flakes, fibers, or granules. Due to its low unit weight, adequate compressive strength and high thermal resistance the developed concrete can be used as a structural lightweight and thermal insulating concrete. The use of this concrete leads to economic and environmental benefits.

Abstract: A cementitious blend composition and a concrete mix composition preferable for making concrete resistant to high temperatures and alkaline conditions, particularly for making durable concrete for constructing an alumina digester tank in an aluminum smelter. The cementitious blend composition includes at least one hydraulic cement, silica fume (SF), and natural pozzolan (NP), wherein a weight percent ratio of at least one hydraulic cement: SF:NP in the cementitious blend composition lies in the range of (24-63): (5-44): (32-40) with the sum of the weight percentages of the at least one hydraulic cement, the SF, and the NP not exceeding 100%. The concrete mix composition comprises water and the cementitious blend composition, wherein a weight ratio of the water the cementitious blend composition is 0.2-0.5, and wherein the concrete mix composition has a content of the cementitious blend composition of 400-550 kg/m3.

Abstract: A method for enhancing adhesion of a curable composition to a cement-based object includes applying a graphene oxide (GO) containing dispersion on a surface of the cement-based object thereby forming a GO-treated surface on the cement-based object. The method includes disposing the curable composition on the GO-treated surface of the cement-based object. The method includes curing the curable composition by heating thereby forming a GO interfacial layer and an epoxy resin layer. The GO interfacial layer is between the surface of the cement-based object and the epoxy resin layer. The curable composition includes an epoxy monomer and an amine curing agent. The GO interfacial layer has a thickness of from 0.1 to 10 nanometers (nm).
