Abstract: An interior rearview mirror assembly for a vehicle includes a mirror head having a mirror reflective element, and a video display device behind the mirror reflective element and viewable through the mirror reflective element when activated. The video display device includes a display screen that occupies at least 75 percent of a reflective region of the mirror reflective element. The video display device includes a backlighting array of light emitting diodes for backlighting the display screen, and the backlighting array of light emitting diodes includes a plurality of zones of light emitting diodes, with each zone having at least two light emitting diodes. The zones of light emitting diodes are independently controlled based on the video images being displayed by the video display device.

Abstract: An interior rearview mirror assembly for a vehicle includes a mirror reflective element and a mirror casing supporting the mirror reflective element. The mirror casing includes a synthesized ABS material having an additional styrene copolymer added to that of the native ABS in the polymerization process of the ABS material. The synthesized ABS may include a Hushlloy™ material. The mirror casing that is made of the synthesized ABS material may include a rear housing portion or a bezel.

Abstract: A mirror reflective element sub-assembly for a vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror reflective element, a mirror back plate, and a blind zone indication module. The module includes a housing, a circuit board and a light source and is disposed at an aperture formed through the back plate. The circuit board includes circuitry and electrically conductive terminals in electrical connection with circuitry of the circuit board. The electrically conductive terminals extend into a connector portion of the housing. The connector portion is configured to connect to a connector of a wire harness of the exterior rearview mirror assembly. The circuit board may include a constant current circuit that provides a constant current output to the light source over a range of supply voltages provided by a power source of the vehicle. The mirror back plate may include structure at least partially circumscribing the aperture for receiving the module.

Abstract: A cabin monitoring system includes an interior rearview mirror assembly including a mirror head having a mirror reflective element that includes (i) a planar glass substrate, (ii) a transflective mirror reflector at the glass substrate and (iii) a light absorption film including a polarizer film. A camera accommodated by the mirror head views through the reflective element. A light emitter accommodated by the mirror head emits near infrared (NIR) light through the reflective element. The light absorption film attenuates greater than 60 percent of visible light and less than 30 percent of NIR light incident on the light absorption film and transmits less than 40 percent of visible light and greater than 70 percent of NIR light through the light absorption film. The camera captures image data representative of NIR light emitted through the reflective element and reflected from the interior cabin of the vehicle back through the reflective element.

Abstract: A vehicular dual-state interior rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror head that accommodates an electrochromic mirror reflective element. A video display device is disposed behind a viewable reflective region of the mirror reflective element. With the mirror assembly operating in a first state, the video display device does not display video images at the display screen and the driver of the vehicle views rearward via reflection at the viewable reflective region. With the mirror assembly operating in a second state, the video display device displays video images at the display screen for viewing by the driver. A touch sensor is disposed at an overhang region of the reflective element behind the front substrate and below the video display device. The video display device is operated responsive at least in part to a touch event at the first surface of the front substrate of the electrochromic mirror reflective element.

Abstract: A vehicular video camera display system includes an interior rearview mirror assembly having a mirror head accommodating an electrochromic reflective element, with a video display device disposed in the mirror head behind the electrochromic reflective element. With the interior rearview mirror assembly disposed at the in-cabin side of a windshield of a vehicle, a video display screen of the video display device is operable to display video images that are viewable through the electrochromic reflective element by a driver of the vehicle. Image data captured by a rearward-viewing video camera is communicated via a cable as a digital signal from the rearward-viewing video camera to control circuitry. The video display device displays video images that are derived, at least in part, from image data communicated from the rearward-viewing video camera to the control circuitry. The control circuitry controls display at the video display device of the video images.

Each frame of image data captured by the imaging array of the rear-viewing camera includes a plurality of grids, with each grid of the plurality of grids having a respective set of photosensing elements associated with respective rows and columns of photosensing elements. A electro-optic rearview mirror assembly includes an electro-optic mirror reflective element that is controlled responsive to an ambient light condition and a glare light condition. The ambient light condition is determined by processing at least one first grid of the plurality of grids of the frames of image data captured by the rear-viewing camera. The glare light condition is determined by processing at least one second grid of the plurality of grids of the frames of image data captured by the rear-viewing camera.

Abstract: A vehicular video camera display system includes an interior rearview mirror assembly having a casing and an electrochromic reflective element, with a video display device disposed in the casing behind the electrochromic reflective element. With the interior rearview mirror assembly mounted at the in-cabin side of a windshield of a vehicle, a video display screen of the video display device is operable to display video images that are viewable through the electrochromic reflective element by a driver of the vehicle. A rearward-viewing video camera is disposed at a rear portion of the vehicle and views at least rearward of the vehicle. Control circuitry is disposed at the interior rearview mirror assembly. Image data captured by the rearward-viewing video camera is communicated as a digital signal from the rearward-viewing video camera via a cable to the control circuitry disposed at the interior rearview mirror assembly.

Abstract: A vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly includes a mounting arm and a mirror head at one end of the mounting arm distal from an attachment portion of the mounting arm that is configured for attachment at a vehicle. A mirror reflective element is fixedly attached at the mirror head. An innermost side of the mirror reflective element is attached at a front side of an attachment plate. The mirror reflective element moves in tandem with movement of the mirror head relative to the mounting arm when the driver of the vehicle operates an electrically-operable actuator. The attachment plate includes wall structure that extends from the front side of the attachment plate and circumscribes and spans the perimeter circumferential edge of the glass substrate and does not encroach onto and does not overlap the front surface of the glass substrate of the exterior mirror reflective element.
