    Abstract: A breather valve and a portable communication device including a breather valve are provided. The breather valve includes a housing having a bottom portion having an opening and side portions, a rigid substrate located within the housing and a breathable membrane mounted to the rigid substrate. The breather valve further includes a gasket having a top surface and a bottom surface, and a preloaded compression element across the gasket and the rigid substrate. The gasket has an upper energy director located at the top surface and a lower energy director located at the bottom surface. The preloaded compression element provides at least a first compressive position providing a contact between the lower energy director and the bottom portion of the housing and a second compressive position in which air passes around the lower energy director and the upper energy director.

    Abstract: An automated personnel identification system. The system includes a portable communications device that stores an identifier, which uniquely identifies the portable communications device, a user of the portable communications device, or both. The system also includes a garment. The garment includes a communications interface, a light source, and an electronic controller electrically coupled to the communications interface and to the light source. The electronic controller is configured to receive the identifier, via the communications interface, from the portable communications device. The electronic controller is further configured to cause the light source to generate a modulated optical output based on the identifier. In some embodiments, the electronic controller is further configured to receive a status indication from the portable communications device via the communications interface, and activate the light source based on the status indication.

    Abstract: A stationary interface control knob includes a body having a fixed substantially-cylindrical surface with a first axis, and a flexible touch panel sensor having a sensor surface at least partially in cylindrical form with a spaced relationship from the fixed substantially-cylindrical surface. The sensor surface has a second axis coinciding with the first axis. The flexible touch panel sensor senses a user interaction with the fixed substantially-cylindrical surface and generates an interface signal in response thereto. Also discloses are method of controlling the stationary interface control knob.
